Schooner Landing

Best Things Nearby:
Newport and the sea are enough to entice one back. Local shops and food are worth exploring. Fishing isn't bad either. Then there are the sand dunes. Of course, lighthouses intrigue me.

Best Things About the Resort:
Very modern and roomy, with great views and proximity to most of the coast

Resort Experience:
This was like a dream vacation, with excellent service and plush accommodations. Another stay here is a must on our list. If you like your own bedroom fireplace for a cozy evening, it's there. The kitchen was well supplied with all the things needed to enjoy our stay.

Best Things Nearby:
There is so much to see up and down the Oregon Coast. Be sure to see Cape Perpetua and the lighthouses.

Best Things About the Resort:

Resort Experience:

The unit was lovely. I felt like I was walking into a model, as it appeared brand-new. Apparently it was totally redone the month before. Even the towels were new! We had two bedrooms and two baths. There was a view of the ocean and we could hear the surf, even though it was not oceanfront.

Best Things Nearby:
The beach--especially when there are minus tides. It is worth getting up early to see the tide pools right below the resort. There are also several lighthouses nearby, the Newport aquarium, and the Newport waterfront, which has restaurants, coffee shops, candy shops, and other shopping. The grocery stores are also close by.

Best Things About the Resort:
Friendly staff, private beach access, clean unit.

Resort Experience:
Schooner Landing is right above the beach! Many units have an ocean view with spectacular sunsets. The private beach access was fantastic. A short walk down the stairs, and we were there. You can easily walk to the tide pools and see starfish, anemones, snails, and crabs. It is a perfect family location for the kids to experience "The Magic School Bus" for themselves.

Best Things About the Resort:
Location!

Resort Experience:
Schooner Landing is a quaint seaside resort with two-story condo buildings gracing the property. Some are oceanfront as ours was, while others have garden views. The resort is perched on a cliff, as most of the town of Newport is. There was an approximate quarter-mile path meandering to the beach ending with a steep 40-step staircase.

Our condo was a two-story, 1,200 square foot, two-bedroom place that slept 6. Our condo featured two gas fireplaces, a fully equipped kitchen, three baths, a stereo, two TVs, a VCR, a DVD player, and spacious bedrooms. The condo was well cared for and nicely furnished. This is a resort that cares about upkeep and maintenance. (The only thing we missed was being able to do laundry in our condo; there was pay laundry onsite however.) We found everything to be up to gold-crown standards except one thing, which I will speak of later.

The resort had a recreation center that the kids enjoyed, but did not rave about. We joined up for the pancake breakfast cooked by the housekeeping staff; it was a nice start to our stay. We purchased our attraction tickets from the front desk, which saved time in lines. The front desk and all staff were friendly and helpful. The playground with a real fishing boat was a huge hit. The beach was the best! There were miles of sand and sea.

The only aspect of the resort that we found odd is probably more of a Mother Nature issue than anything, but it needs to be noted. The land near the coast is not stable, and as a result, many buildings built seaside are shifting. Our condo had a good 3- to 5-inch slant. It gave you a weird feeling as you walked up hill inside a building. It was obvious that stabilizers had been added to the building; however, we were never told if this was a serious concern or not. I know some people would be very leery about the condition of the building. That was the only issue that we had that would not make it a gold-crown resort.

Schooner Landing is a very nice resort in an unbelievable location. All in all, it was a very worthwhile trip.

Sheraton Laguna Grande Phuket2

Sheraton Laguna Grande Phuket2

We chose the Sheraton Laguna Grande Resort as our base. The resort is part of the five-resort Laguna Resort complex wherein guests in all five resorts can use all of the five resorts' facilities. Sheraton has Asia's longest pool at 323 meters but it is only 0.7 meters deep all throughout that diving is not allowed. We stayed in a lagoon villa. The lagoon villas are connected from the main hotel buildings by bridges and walk ways. The villa has two levels. The ground floor has the living and dining rooms, a toilet and a balcony with a private pier to the lagoon. The second level has the bedroom and the massive toilet, a separate shower and an outdoor sunken bath. Video and CD players were available together with a personal ref. From the living room, there is a balcony leading to a private pier which is a common feature of all villas. During our stay everything seems okay except that the aircon in the ground floor was too noisy for us but overall, the villa was superb.
