Mrs. Anderson's Lodging House

I've never stayed in Leavenworth, since I lived in Chelan and Wenatchee and am a cheap bastard to boot. But I was a guest of an admirer in Mrs. Anderson's for two memorable nights and very much approved. For one thing, it's got to be cheapest place in town (you don't build a synthetic Alps, then charge cheap for it), for another it's real. It's a historic old house, that was the first rooming house in Leavenworth in 1900, before the Bavarian Reich, and it's comfortable an cozy. There are only nine rooms, and some of those share a bath (so did I, as it turned out, but enough smirking). Oh, yeah they throw in a light breakfast and don't even call it "Continental". And again, from the Cheap Bastard's mouth, it's the cheapest in town--$40 to 70 a room.
Recently, Mrs. Anderson's was bought by some people who have turned it into "Quiltheaven", a collection of shops and quilting parlor and studios--but you can still rent these nice rooms with antiques and queen beds, they just have more quilts around these days. By the way, the main way people in stay in Leavenworth is in B&B's--the town is lousy with them, ranging from Granny Goose kitsch to log cabins featured in "Log Homes" and "Smother the Earth" magazines.
