Description: Most Garda lake towns are lined with basic tourist hotels just on the outskirts of town. Hotel Paina is one of them, and is a decent value, at ~$80 for two people for a room, breakfast AND dinner in the off season. (The breakfast is decent, the dinner less so.)
The hotel is about 2km from the center of town. All that is visible from the street is the parking lot (on top of the hotel.) Hotel Piana is rated a 3-star, and the decor and the rooms are basic, not beautiful. But the real attraction is the lake view from the balcony rooms. Pay the $10-$20 extra to have this unabstructed view, only 50'' from the shore. With Lago di Garda in the background and the Castello di Malcesine to keep you company, who needs to spend the extra lira on a fancy place to sleep?
