A car is a necessity. I don't think there is any nearby public transport and the nearest shopping centre (Torquay) is a few kilometres away. You would also need a car to get to the beaches. There are some excellent surf beaches that cater for all ranges of skills from the novice to the pro. We stuck with the patrolled beaches and managed to find some good surf for body-surfing. A body board would help as the waves on some beaches were a bit small some days.
We spent much of our time trying out the beaches around the area. We looked at Bells beach and watched the surfers. Very impressive! For us, Jan Juc (on the road back towards Torquay) was more our style. We also found some good waves that we could manage at Fairhaven (further down the coast past Anglesea).
