The park caters for people without camping gear (that was us), those with caravans and those who wish to camp. On the advice of Mary, the park owner, we booked into an air-conditioned cabin. It contained a double bed, 2 bunk beds and a fold-down sofa lounge. It also had a sink, refrigerator, electric jug, toaster, electric frypan, microwave oven, electric grill, TV, ceiling fan and a table and chairs. We had some food with us and bought a few bits and pieces at the park convenience store so we decided to eat in that night.
We were pleased to find that the cabin had its own private en-suite bathroom. This was in a separate building about eight steps away from the bedroom door. The bathroom had a shower, basin, toilet and its own hot water system. It was great to have clean private facilities without having to consider other travellers.
In the morning we wandered around the park and discovered other facilities. There were free gas BBQs, a laundry with coin-in-the-slot washers and dryers and iron and board, a public telephone, and a saltwater swimming pool. There was plenty of shade and grass play areas for the kids. We also looked at the communal bathroom facilities and decided that they would be fine if we were budget travelling.
The park is situated on the inland side of Charters Towers just a short distance from the main highway but far enough away to avoid the traffic noise. It is too far to walk to the central city but it is only a five-minute car ride.
