Small, friendly, family hotel, tucked away in a quiet turning in the middle of town, next to the main pedestrian shopping street. About 5 minutes walk from the station and the same distance from the main square (Place Charles de Gaulle). There’s even a tiny car park at the back. There is a quiet breakfast room (standard buffet – 5 euro extra per person), but no other food or drink available on the premises. With dozens of small restaurants and brasseries within a few minutes walk in any direction, I didn’t find this a problem. Not the kind of place where you have to pay upfront in cash; I was usually addressed by name and they always had my key waiting for me by the time I got to reception.
My room was large, clean, rather spartan, decorated fairly recently in shades of pink, with a pastel quilt on the bed and matching curtains. Pillows like sandbags, but not as uncomfortable as I expected and I slept well. The large windows let in as much fresh air as I wanted. The en-suite bathroom was also large and clean, with lots of hot water and fresh towels every day, and soap dispensers by shower and hand basin. French-only TV encouraged me to sit back and catch up on my reading.
Not the cheapest hotel in Poitiers (those are all at the bottom of the hill, by the station), but very relaxing and fair value at 45 euro a night for a double room (no reduction for single occupancy).
