Lovely and Quaint

Now this is what a lodge is supposed to look like. The room was lovely and a nice size, clean and well appointed. The lodge has a nice size family room with TV, computer and puzzles for family activities. There are many places to sit outdoors to watch the sunset (and the mosquitoes eat you up). We did not use the pool, but heard it was also nice. The dining room actually had great food. Not cheap, but good quality. I am a vegetarian and there were several choices for me. My only complaint, and this is personal, is that all amenities provided had a pine fragrance. I felt like I had bathed in Pine Sol, washed my hair in Pine Sol and creamed myself up with pine needles. If you don't like the smell of pine, bring your own shampoo, soap..etc.

Blackwater Falls State Park Lodge

This is a classic mountain lodge (big wooden beams) settled comfortably on the edge of a deep river gorge. The rooms are small but the bed was extremely comfortable. There is a dining room, gift shop, large lobby lounge area with big fireplace and a small indoor pool. The hot tub is bigger than most but a few families will quickly fill up the pool. There is a nature center nearby and rangers offer guided programs. A good family destination. Kids will ask for coins to play in the video game room. Maps indicate the various trails leading away from the lodge.
