The Hotel Puri is one of the best places to stay in Malacca. Housed in several preserved Peranakan houses, the hotel oozes local charm and nostalgia. Those interested in the history of the building and the road can visit the mini-museum housed within the hotel.
Besides the thrill of staying in a "historic" house, the hotel is conveniently located in a central area of town. It is just a 10- to 15-minute walk to the main tourist attractions and the main shopping centre of Mahkota Square.
Although a small hotel, it has a healthy occupancy rate, and if you come late for breakfast (around 9:50am), there may not be much left of the complementary buffet breakfast.
The rooms are comfortable, with modern amenities and a cable TV. The more expensive rooms have bathtubs, but there are showers in the rest. Although not the most luxurious, the rooms are adequate for the moderate price charged.
The service is mainly efficient and satisfactory, though not particularly warm. For cheaper accommodation options in similar historic houses, try the Heren house just down the road.
