Stick to Ain Zerga

Climat du Maroc is often a very cold environment. I may go there for a beer in the garden, but for a more hometown feel, walk down the street from Climat du Maroc, past the Ag bank to "Hotel Ain Zerga." It is family owned and locally operated. You'll get a more Bouarfan experience.

Hotel Climat du Maroc, Bouarfa

We had passed the hotel in the bus. It had a very small neon sign, which said: HOTEL. As far as we knew there was only one hotel in Bouarfa. So this must be it. From the bus station we walked back along the main street. Shops were closing and so were the restaurants. We’d better hurry if we wanted to have any dinner.

’Sorry, no rooms’.

No rooms? We could not believe our ears. In this out-of-the-way-place, 1500 km east of Agadir, no rooms. That’s the last we had expected.

We were outside on the pavement deliberating what to do.
’If you walk straight on, take the first street left, cross the road and at the Bank you turn left, walk on and there is a hotel It’s new.’
Thank you for your help. Could you repeat how to get there?’

He must have realised that his instruction were difficult to follow. So he flagged down a car, which appeared to be his friend who was taking his girlfriend on a date. We were shoved in to the car and our new friend delivered us at the hotel. We were received with much ado, shown a room, the key would not fit, another key was fetched, the door would not open, another key was fetched and we were let into a beautifully furnished room, floral bedspreads, floral curtains, a television. Our ‘friends’ had taken this opportunity to follow us so that they, too, could admire the room.

The owner was very happy to see us. We were his first guests The hotel had opened very recently. We signed the register in a very cold lobby. The owner had his coat on, and so had the girl who supplied us with towels and a youg man who had fetched the keys.

The owner came up again to our room. he wanted to show us something. He pointed at the airconditionning and wanted to make it work with the remote control.

’No!’ I hastened to say, ‘It is cold enough here’.

He smiled and did turn it on. It was both heating and airco
This was the only hotel during our trip which had heating and hot water.

We did not have anything to eat that night. The centre was too far away, besides we had seen that all restaurants were closing. The hotel had no food, not even eggs or bread, so we had some of our emergency biscuits, which we always carry, just in case. And watched Moroccan television.

Next morning we had an excellent breakfast: jus d’orange, croissants, crispy French bread, petit pains au chocolat, butter and jam. True to say we had to wait 30 minutes before it arrived, as one of the staff was sent away to the shops after we had placed our order.
