Krumlov House/U Vodnika

This hostel was so great I didn't want to leave. Neither did anyone else. The ambiance was so good that some mornings it was hard for everyone to get out and about on the town-we all wanted to hang out in the hostel!

Unique Qualities: Huge kitchen, nice common room with tons of board games to keep everyone occupied, book swapping, comfortable beds, long hot showers that don't run out of water, and friendly people. What more can you ask for?

Of course, if you're into hostels that are more like mini-hotels with key cards, front desk service, and stark sterile rooms then this might not be the place for you. There are two big rooms filled with beds and a couple of rooms that can sleep 2-3 people. The beds are handmade and wooden, not metal frames. The floors are carpeted. The common room consists of a couple of comfy couches and a coffee table. It's more like staying at somebody's house than staying at a hotel. I felt comfortable walking around in my pajamas and socks. But that might not be for everyone.

The hostel is kept very clean and the staff is knowledgeable. There's usually always someone around who is up for a board game and the pub down the street will let someone go down and bring up a pitcher of beer so you can't beat that.

Just like home. Clean and comfortable, a refreshing change from the hostel circuit. Owned and operated by an American and Canadian couple who met in Krumlov and couldn't give it up. Very communally oriented, you'll have to share.
