Lodges at Lake Placid

Lodges at Lake Placid

Best Things Nearby:
Whiteface Mountain, the town of Lake Placid, toboggan run, ice skating, cross-country ski trails, snowshoe trails, bobsled/luge, and ice climbing

Best Things About the Resort:
The condos are huge, with fireplace, Jacuzzi tubs, and sauna (yes, their own). They also have a pull-out couch on the second-floor landing that is really a third bedroom (but not private).

While not new, they are well-kept, and cleanliness was not an issue.

The best thing is how close they are to everything. You can walk a few blocks into the town or many activities like skating rinks, toboggan runs, and cross-country ski trails.

Resort Experience:
This was our second year at this resort. While the resort has minimal services (no pool or central activity centre), they do provide free computer access and, new this year, free wireless high-speed connection at the main office.

The beauty of the place is its walking proximity to outdoor activities. It is one block from Mirror Lake. They had a huge area cleared for skating on the lake (free), and it also has a great toboggan tower (free).

Cross-country skiing is within walking distance (free), and there are a lots of trails within a short drive. The Jack Rabbit trail is popular, with free maps around town. Trails are well-marked.

With the nearby hills, there are lots of terrain choices.

Snowshoe trails require a drive to get to the good stuff. Whiteface for downhill skiing is about a 15-minute drive.

The family really likes skating on the speed-skating oval (free). It is quite beautiful with the mountains in the background.

Best Things Nearby:
The town! Once you park your car at the resort, you can walk to restaurants, shopping, and attractions.

Best Things About the Resort:
Your own personal jacuzzi in the master bathroom.
Spaciousness.

Resort Experience:
The Lodges at Lake Placid were a perfect getaway for us. We went between seasons, so there was not a lot of skiing or summer activities, but we had a great, relaxing long holiday weekend to enjoy ourselves.

One plus about this condominium is the location. The complex is off one of the side streets from the main thoroughfare. While at your condo, you feel like you are in the country (landscaping includes fully grown trees, as well as beautiful bushes and probably flowers in the summer), yet you are within walking distance of the town. That means you do not need your car (unless you do a lot of shopping)!

There were many other plusses about this condominium that contributed to our positive enjoyment.
The layout of the individual condo: Each condominium is a two-story townhouse. On the first floor, the main feature is the large living room (with a fireplace, of course). There was plenty of comfortable furniture, which made for enjoyable, cozy DVD-watching for the weekend. Yes, it was a romantic getaway –- watching a movie and eating popcorn, warmed by the fire! Other rooms included the well-stocked kitchen, the dining room area, and a master bathroom, which had a jacuzzi for two! On the second floor were the two bedrooms and another bathroom. Both bedrooms were good-sized, so you could invite other friends to spend the week.
The quietness of the condo: There are several condominiums within the complex, but I felt like we were by ourselves because it was so quiet. In addition, the condos are surrounded by private residences, so you felt you were in a neighborhood. Finally, the large golf course (not used at that time of the year) decreased population density, so you do not get a feeling of congestion. See picture of exterior and other information.
Beautiful views: You are essentially on a hill, so there are great views of the area.
Misc: The only "negative" was that there was not an indoor pool, and since most hotels in the area do not allow non-guests to use their pool, I was not able to swim for the week. Also no exercise room, so my exercise was walking and running around Mirror Lake.
