Best Things Nearby:
Beautiful countryside, fresh apple stands, wonderful eateries.

Best Things About the Resort:
It's dead in the fall and on the q.t. We were told it had really slowed down the last few years (By several of the locals and the employees). I love not being around a bunch of people. Full-service, and it's a beautiful place.

Resort Experience:

The unit was a converted boutique, or resturaunt, on the circle. As a one bedroom, we had two queen-sized beds and plenty of room. The late check-in was smooth, and they have a great salon/spa. We took advantage of the massage, and were scheduled to enjoy facials but got called away early due to a family emergency. We played horseshoes every night and considered "borrowing" a paddleboat on the small lake, but they had a bit of water in them and it was too cold to chance a submerging in the lake.

The pool inside was nice, but the sauna was a bit behind on tile repair and cleaning. Previous poor maintenence was now trying to be caught up with, but being done the cheapest way possible. The metal railing around the pool had lots of rust, and the girl repainting it was not wire-brushing it or sanding it to maintain it correctly. The remodel was done kind of shotty (I'm a landlord and have to have this type of work done). I wish in the future that they'd spend the money to pay attention to detail. The smoke alarm was VERY OLD and had grease caked on it, the windows in the bedroom were painted shut, thus not allowing for escape in an emergency. I' go here again because of location and a quiet fall getaway, but not a four-star place.

Best Things Nearby:
There was not a whole lot in the area, but the wild animal park nearby was a great day trip.

Best Things About the Resort:
The room was larger than expected for a one-bedroom unit, clean, and comfortable.

Resort Experience:
The main resort is older and set in an old castle-type building. The Nottingham Village, where RCI members stay, is separate from the main building, which had all the amenities. The room was a few hundred yards from the resort and not well lit at night.

There are several pools outside and a pool inside. The indoor hot tub is large and comfortable. The downside to these pools was that they closed too early, especially for summertime. Outdoor pools closed at 6pm, and the indoor pool closed at 9pm.

For the most part, the pool areas were neat and orderly, but the floor could have been cleaned more often.

We did not eat at the restaurant much, as the menu was limited and pricey.

There were very few things for the children to do and no planned activities.

We did, however, relax more than we have in a long time, which was the focus of this vacation.

Best Things About the Resort:

Resort Experience:
This is a 50's resort that hasn't been kept up. It's OK if you're there to sleep. Close to Hunter Mt. for skiing. The unit was clean, everything worked, BUT, the overhead lights and wall outlets were on the same wall switch. If you turned off the lights from the wall, you had to reset the clock. The outlets in the kitchen area were ok, but the Living room was the same as the bedroom. The unit always felt damp - even with the AC it didn't dehumidify as expected. Beware the offer of Tuck Bucks and a Bonus Week Vacation. The Bucks are real, but the Bonus Week is only a 20% discount - misrepresented in the letter you get with the welcome pack.

We could not believe that this was an RCI selection. First, nowhere was it stated that this had been a hotel conversion. The layout was ordinary, with all rooms side by side. Unfortunately, each room was still wired as if a motel room, or worse. The single wall switch in each room controlled ALL electricity in the room including, in the bedroom, the overhead light, TV (with remote! how useful) and clock radio. Since we wanted to be able to use the bedside lamp and TV remote as designed, we needed to climb on the chair in each room and unscrew the bulb in the overhead light.

It also appeared that the carpeted area where the kitchen ended up had just been cut away and replaced by vinyl tiles. Unfortunately, the raised edge was not addressed and it was easy to jam your toe into the edge when moving from the carpet to tile.

The appliances all were well-used and showed it. The bathrooms also were not updated, and looked just like you would expect from an older hotel. NOT what I had experienced at the few other RCI Resorts I have visited and enjoyed.

All in all, my sister-in-law and I felt RCI would be best served by having Friar Tuck gut and totally refinish the rooms to remain RCI resorts. Oh, and we never saw any information that there were no specific smoking and non-smoking units. Since we both have some degree of allergies, it was only through the kindness and rescheduling of the RCI rep on-site that we were accommodated with a unit that did not reek of smoke, which the first one did.

Two bedroom units nicley furnished with 2 beds in each bedroom and full bath with each.

These were seperated by the kitchen, dining, living room which would be nice for a 2 couple stay. The hotel-resort is a short walk or drive on the same grounds with a pool resturant bar and off track betting.
