There are no resorts or highrise hotels in Byron Bay. No buildings are over four stories tall. Ours was one of two motels which bordered on the beach and offered us a lovely view of the ocean and the stars from our hotel room. We had a second floor room.
The motel is run by a husband and wife team whose friendly sheep dog is often outside enjoying a game of catch with anyone who will play. There are no restaurants in the hotel, but you can order a home-cooked breakfast from the proprietors. The motel was within walking distance to the town which was convenient for all meals and shopping.
The owners were very friendly and gave us directions to Bangalow, a nearby town with many cute antique stores and lovely starry views after sunset.
The room was clean and comfortable. Don''t sleep too late as housekeeping is over for the day at noon.
