Marina Bay Resort

Our unit contained a very small bathroom, miniature stove and refrigerator, queen size bed, two bunk beds, and a day bed that doubled for a couch. The small size produced a feeling of claustrophobia that largely offset our liking for the beautiful beaches located about one mile away.

This place had a nice pool and deck area. It's located on the Intercoastal Waterway with a nice view. The resort director gave out coffee and donuts, and informed people where to go and places to see. The resort is close to restaurants, the beach, etc.

Our room was small and needed some minor repairs. Get the rooms facing the water if at all possible, as the ones facing the parking lot are very small.

Best Things About the Resort:
Nothing. I am writing this entry so that other members may avoid the experience we had.

Resort Experience:
When I booked the reservation through RCI, I was simply told it was a one-bedroom unit that slept six. The week before our trip, I received papers in the mail directly from Marina Bay Resort, with these words highlighted in pink: "Marina Bay Resort is a motel conversion. Our largest suite, the Admiral Suite (the type of unit we had), is approximately the size of two small motel rooms."

Our suite was on the side of the building near some construction. Wood slats were placed on the floor outside our door, making it necessary for us to step over them each time we went in and out. The noise from the construction by the unit was annoying. The one "motel room" had a small fridge and stove, along with a folding table and a sleeper sofa, along with a set of bunk beds. The other room contained a king-size bed. Both bathrooms were so small that there was hardly any room to move about in them.

We finally decided to ask to be moved to another unit, on account of all the construction. The manager tried to accommodate us, but all he had to offer us was a smoking unit. Upon entering that unit, the smoke was so dense that it choked us. We had no choice but to stay in the original unit, but we insisted that the wood boards be moved away from the door. The management did take care of this for us.

It was upsetting that not only did RCI not share this information with me at the time of the initial booking, but that the RCI agents probably never knew that the property was a motel conversion. I find it appalling that RCI would continue to include a property of this caliber amongst its resorts. Furthermore, it makes me wonder what type, if any, quality standards resorts are required to meet, and how the quality of the resorts is monitored or ensured by RCI.

Best Things About the Resort:

Resort Experience:
This is a remodeled hotel. Old facility and not very well-maintained. When the facility manager was contacted at 5am due to a rat in our room, he stated, "Oh, that happens from time to time from people leaving doors open." No follow-up at all.

Best Things Nearby:
It's only a mile to the beach and just a few miles from the Gulfarium, which seems pretty popular. The resort is also walking distance from a few little shops, bars, restaurants, the marina and a public park. Within a short drive, there are dozens of other stores, restaurants, a mall and a movie theater.

Best Things About the Resort:
The staff was very informative about things to do and places to eat. The deck on the marina had a lovely view of the bay and the boats coming in and out. A blue heron seemed to have taken up residence there.

Resort Experience:
The rooms, furniture and amenities were pretty standard. Most of the items that were not provided in the room were available for a $10 deposit such as iron and ironing board and equipment for the different recreational areas — ping pong paddles, bikes and such. The pool, hottub, exercise room, sauna, putting green and shuffle board were all standard. Sand volleyball court was nice but never saw anyone using it.
