Description: These are upper-moderate accommodations. This property was probably built in the late 70s or early 80s, but you have to look closely in order to see that; extremely well maintained.
This is a nice, medium-sized, beach front property with a well maintained, medium sized pool, adjacent jacuzzi which comfortably accomodates 8-10 people, poolside BBQ pits, ping pong, shuffle board, video games, laundry room, a library on the lobby level with free coffee and DSL internet access in each of the rooms. The pool had only a handful of people in it when we were here in Sept. 2004. Additionally, I found the hot tub abandoned after about 9pm; open until 11pm.
While the property IS beach front, you must take the boardwalk from the hotel rear exit and walk 30 to 40 yards in order to get your toes into the sand. Most Port Aransas properties will have a boardwalk like this.
Conveniently, there are clean, folded towels in a large bin sitting next to the rear exit for guest use (free). These towels typically disappear by early afternoon. Lounge chairs are kept at the foot of the boardwalk for guest use (also free).
There is a specific unit on the 7th floor that is a step above other units we have stayed in here. The unit number is 708. You can request it specifically. Expect spacious condos with every amenity of home including a full kitchen - stove, full-sized fridge, microwave, toaster, blender, linens, utensils, pots, pans, plates and cups. There is a king-sized bed in the master bedroom and full or two twins in second bedroom, spacious living area along with a dining table w/four to six chairs, full-sized fold out sofa, matching love seat, new Sony large screen TV and DVD player, and floor-to-ceiling window glass (incredible ocean views).
In past years, the staff was not overly helpful. Once you checked in, you were pretty much on your own. However, during our last stay, it was obvious that management has made efforts to improve on hospitality.
Overall, it's the best property with the most amenities for the money, and it’s quiet with very thick walls. The downside: this is not a full service hotel. Maid service is once weekly. However, linens are replaced daily and trash removed. There is no room service here, no restaurants at this resort, and no restaurants within walking distance. This resort is somewhat isolated, yet not far from Port Aransas proper (20 minutes or so away). VERY un-crowded beach.
Tip: one bedroom averages $130 to $155 per night and a two bedroom average rate is $195 to $315. We have found that when we book the one bedroom and pay the one bedroom rate, they rarely lock the second bathroom. Hence, we have almost always had access to the second bathroom. It's nice to have two bathrooms and 6 fresh bath towels, hand towels and washcloths each day.
