Description: This is a nice, family-owned, semi-inclusive resort with about 70 rooms. Each room has ocean access and the resort is right on the sandy beach. It’s much more laid-back and friendly than the big resorts.
There’s less emphasis on drinking too. Breakfast and dinner are included in the room cost. They can accommodate vegetarians (ovo lacto). Food is good, tasty, and clean. We did not get any food poisoning. There were many families and travellers of all ages, and many return visitors. There were lots of Italian and German tourists and few Americans when we went. The staff is exceedingly friendly, and speak English and Italian, as well as Spanish. Things to do include: beach lounging, horse-back riding, scuba and snorkeling (there is an attached dive shop), tours of Playa del Carmen and many local sites (organized through a separate tour agency), rent a car (attached as well), swim in the pool, TV room, and a game room with pool and ping pong.
There is no bad room. There are some rooms with air conditioning and all have a ceiling fan. Rooms include shampoo, soap, beach towels, linens, a hammock on the porch (!), and bottled water replenished daily. There is available transport to and from airport. Reception will also call a taxi for you.
If you go with your family, note that the beach allows topless sunbathing. When we went, there were several ladies who were topless each day. I don’t think it would be appropriate for wheelchair access, as the entire resort is made up to separate buildings connected by a sand beach. Check out the website.
