Great Location in Breckenridge

  • April 13, 2009
  • Rated 5 of 5 by rehabber from Evanston, Illinois
French Ridge seems to be the "best kept secret" in Breckenridge. If you are considering buying, this is a GREAT VALUE !! We have been coming here for about 6 years at the Christmas-NewYear holiday season. We own week 51 and week 52. We have friends who own a summer week, and they love that season, too.
Most of the units are 2 stories, with 2 bedrooms and 2 baths upstairs and living-dining-kitchen on main level. There is also a sleeper sofa. The furnishing have all been updated recently. Right outside your door on a private deck is your hot tub, which we really enjoy. There is a fireplace, washer/ dryer, and the kitchen is fully stocked.
French Ridge is small cluster of rather-new Victorian-style townhouses in the historic district. The really great thing is the location; you can walk to almost everything, including the base of Peak 9. You are less than 2 blocks off Main Street, which is incredibly charming and has a bunch of shops and restaurants. The free town bus runs right in front of your door. You have a beautiful view of the four ski mountains.
You do not have a swimming pool, health club, or concierge; if you want these amenities, you need to pay more for a resort atmosphere. But if you want a delightful family ski vacation at a good price, this is an ideal place.

Best Things Nearby:
Main Street with all its shops and restaurants only 1 block away. Ski slopes abound (five or six resorts within an hour's drive). Free shuttle to slopes, around town, and all of Summit County picks up right outside your door. Awesome skiing/boarding, shopping, eateries and incredible mountain views around every curve. Picture-taking opportunities so numerous, it's essential to always take your camera out with you. Had a wonderful snowmobile guided tour. Walked out on balcony one night very late, and on a snow-covered boulder only a few feet away was a huge fox curled up, sleeping soundly! Looked up at my husband, then continued snoozing. Saw him there several times throughout the week, and got great photo of our wildlife buddy. Loved eating at Bubba Gump's and several great breakfast/lunch cafes on Main St. in nearby Frisco.

Best Things About the Resort:
The view of the mountain range from your balcony is superb. Private deck with private hot tub after a day on the slopes was everyone's favorite. We own week 52 here, and love the holidays in Breckenridge.

Resort Experience:
We own a two-bedroom/two-and-a-half-bath townhouse. Arrived late Christmas night, and did the late check-in routine on our own with no problems. Officially checked in next morning - smooth process - no delays or problems. Downstairs, you enter a mud room to knock the snow off the boots and store skis and coats. Also on this level is a nicely furnished kitchen with bar and stools, dining table for six, and living room with queen sleeper sofa, fireplace (free firewood), and TV/VCR. Half bath on this level is nice so you don't have to run upstairs to use a restroom.

Off the living room is a private deck with private hot tub with seating for four. Upstairs, the master bedroom has a queen bed, TV, private bathroom, and a wonderful balcony that faces the mountains. We watched New Year's Eve fireworks and skiers with torches come down the mountains from this excellent view. The second bedroom is also upstairs and is very basic, with two twin beds, dresser, and full bath accessed from the bedroom and hallway. Stackable washer/dryer in nook off upstairs hallway.

Best Things Nearby:
These condos were very convenient to the Breckenridge ski slopes, restaurants, grocery store, shops, etc.

Best Things About the Resort:
It is within walking distance to nearly everything you need.

Resort Experience:
Ours was a low-end unit, with no washer/dryer, a small TV (with cable) in the living area (but none in the bedroom), and two fold-out sofas that were simply not sleepable (except perhaps by small children). The bed in the bedroom was fine, as was the kitchen. The single bath had a very good shower, with strong water pressure and plenty of hot water. Check-in and check-out was courteous and without hassles.

Breckenridge, Rocky Mountain National Park, Denver.

Best Things About the Resort:
Convenience to sights

Resort Experience:
The furnishings needed to be updated. There is a hot tub on the deck, but it had a strange odor, and we did not use it. We were very disappointed with this timeshare experience.

The unit was very spacious, with an upstairs bedroom arrangement, so that if people wanted to retire earlier than others, they wouldn't be bothered by what was going on in the main living area. The resort is located in a quiet residential area, but it's only a couple of blocks from the main street of town, making walking downtown very easy and convienient. We had our own hot tub, which was a nice touch. The condition was in good condition, with some wear and tear, but not bad. A good stay for sure!
