Vanderbilt Inn on the Gulf

  • April 7, 2004
  • Rated 5 of 5 by gregnabors from Miami, Florida
For the low season (summer), we enjoy the Vanderbilt Inn on the Gulf. Any beachfront accommodations should be enjoyable -- try searching the Net for the best deal, then call AAA to see if they can better it.

The rooms were fairly simple, but the real attractions are the Gulf beaches, sunsets and nature. Next to Delnor-Wiggins Pass State Park -- beautiful white sand beaches.

From journal Naples on $2 a day (well, not quite)

Best Things Nearby:
There are two buildings. One is on a sandy beach on the gulf for tremendous sunsets and long beach walks. The other is across the street on the bay for beautiful sunrises and a great bay view to watch any passing boats.

Best Things About the Resort:
If you are looking to relax this is the place. We woke up and took long beach walks each morning and could hang out by the pool all day. Since we live in Florida we also brought our boat and used the dock at the resort (but be sure to make prior arrangements for launch and trailer storage).

Resort Experience:
If you are looking for a 5-star resort with lots of fancy amenities, you are in the wrong place. If you are looking for a clean, spacious condo where you can relax and enjoy FL beaches this is a good place.

The master bedroom had a great king-size bed and ours had an excellent view of the bay.

The resort will allow you to rent one of the two pontoon boats on property for 3 hours at a time, or you can use the bicycles for 2 hours for no charge if you leave a deposit.

If you want the resort to plan your activities, you may be disappointed (bingo and a hotdog bbq). The nice thing is the resort does have a dock, two pools and hot tubs, a beach, bicycles, pontoon boats, bbq grills, and awesome sunsets! Grocery stores and restaurants are a short drive away, but if you prefer to walk to a restaurant there are two nearby. The fare was decent, but they tend to close very early (9:30pm on a Friday night). We had hoped for a few more tiki bars with inexpensive drinks, but not to be. The Vanderbilt Beach area of Naples is more of a retirement community and does not offer a lot of options for the younger set. Downtown Naples has galleries and nice stores, and is roughly 15-20 minutes by car. A decent outlet mall is also a 20 minute car ride. (Drive times can be worse at high tourist season).

  • Unit Type: 2 Bedroom

  • Amenities: Very Good
  • Unit Satisfaction: Excellent
  • Family Friendliness: Fair
  • Service: Good
