This is a medium-class hotel of a superior quality that is presented in a colonial style. This is an ideal first night stop on arrival into the country or can be used as a base for discovering Columbo, just 30 minutes away. (The airport is 90 minutes.)
On one side of the property is the main rail line into Columbo, and on the other is the ocean, with a quite lovely stretch of beach to relax on. The property was used during the filming of A Bridge over the River Kwai (shot entirely in Sri Lanka) to portray the hospital.
There is a selection of beach-based restaurants located a stone’s throw from the hotel, giving the full candlelit-dining-on-the-beach experience.
Following the Boxing Day Tsunami, this hotel was uneffected.
