The Harborside Inn

Best Things Nearby:
The harbor, wonderful restaurants, shops, beach.

Best Things About the Resort:
This inn is a hidden treasure.
The community kitchen, believe it or not.
The small, quiet pool area and a spectacular water view.

Resort Experience:
The majority of the units are located in former sea captains’ homes that have been converted. We occupied a hotel room, but it was spacious and immaculate. None of the units have kitchens but offer a "community kitchen." This turned out to be at least eight fully equipped individual kitchens in one large room with a dining area, offering many individual tables and a very comfortable sitting area. There were many refrigerators in which to store your groceries. You write your name and unit number on a dry-wipe board on the refrigerator door. The kitchens are cleaned twice daily. You are asked to clear your dishes and stack your dishes in a designated area. They are washed by the resort. You are asked to wash any pots or pans. You could bake a cake, make cookies, or cook your Thanksgiving dinner. Any and all kinds of pans, utensils, etc., are provided. It was fun to prepare your meal with some other family preparing theirs in the kitchen next to you. Perhaps in the very busy months of summer it would be crowded, but in early September, it was a very social atmosphere. In addition to the kitchens, there is an outdoor cooking and eating area. Four commercial gas grills are provided for cooking and outdoor dining tables with umbrellas. I would not recommend this resort for young families. There was no kiddie pool or playground area. It is a very small area in which the resort is located. You are right downtown and can walk to any number of restaurants, shops, or activities.

Big 4, Port Augusta BIG 4 Holiday Park

We staid in an on-site caravan. For 50 Australian dollars per night we had this van with 1 double bed and 4 bunks, a sitting area and a kitchen. All very well maintained. The facilities were just 50m away and very clean. They're part of Big 4 Holiday Parks.
