Description: The Delta Hotel Saint John is a nice and standard hotel. It has all the furnishings you would expect to find in a hotel room: comfortable beds, modern decor, a tv, etc., but it is perhaps its location that makes it one of the most convenient places to stay in Saint John.
The hotel is located in the city's Brunswick Square -- a shopping mall featuring clothing stores, convenience stores, a drug store, a food court, and restaurants. Brunswick Square is also attached to the city's farmers' market, and Market Square, which also features an array of retail stores and restaurants and pubs. Brunswick Square is also attached to Saint John's Harbour Station which is home to the Saint John Sea Dogs hockey team and it hosts concerts and events regularly. The Saint John Aquatic Centre is also found in Brunswick Square. Everything is attached through an indoor pedway system.
So if you land in Saint John and book a room at the Delta, you can be assured that everything you need or want to do can be done without having to put on your jacket to go out in the cold (though you'd be amiss if you didn't get out to the experience the city's boardwalk -- especially in the summer months). When I first stayed at the hotel I dropped my bags off, took my coat off (it was in late November) and went downstairs to do some window shopping. As I was getting ready for a Christmas party, I realized that I forgot to bring my hairspray with me. All I had to do was take the elevator down a floor to drugstore to buy my hairspray. I was back in my room within 10 minutes!
Brunswick Square is located in the heart of Uptown Saint John, so if you're looking for a night out on the town then it's just outside your door. Princess Street, just up the road, features most of the city's pubs and sports bars.
I stayed at the hotel on a different occasion when I was in town to see a Neil Young concert. We had supper and a drink at a pub in Market Square before heading to the concert. And we were sure glad after the concert that we had booked in the Delta because we didn't have to fight through traffic of wait an hour for a cab. We just walked through the pedway and took an elevator to our room!
The hotel features underground parking. They will sometimes have free parking included if you're getting a special package.
The service at this hotel has been pretty great. The staff is very friendly and professional and willing to help. I was in town working late one night and didn't feel comfortable driving back to my hometown late at night, so I showed up at the Delta around 10 p.m. to see if there was a room available. They not only had a room available, they offered me a great deal for only $99 for the night, and on top of that, they gave me a complimentary upgrade. The room upgrade came with a free buffet breakfast for two (A value of $40) When I got to my room, it was a very small corner room. There was room for only one night stand and there really wasn't any room for moving around much. I was ok with that room since I was only there to sleep. But just for fun, I called the front desk and asked if there were any other rooms available, even if it weren't the upgraded style (I didn't want to be too greedy since they had offered me a free upgrade.) Within minutes, they arrived at my door to take me to my new room, which was still an upgrade. The room was spectacular! It was very large, the bed was extremely comfortable, and it was extremely clean. It was located in a "privileged" area where I had access to a kitchenette which features snacks and drinks.
The restaurant in the hotel has a great breakfast and the service is great. And although I've never had dinner there, it has a great reputation around town for having high-quality food.
So when you go to the Delta, expect a standard-level hotel with great service and a fantastic location!!!
