Chipman Hill Suites

For my stay I had a bachelor suite with a queen-size bed, although the sleeping structure could vary from a single bed to a double hideaway bed to a double bed depending on the unit. My suite had a partial kitchen facility with two burner tops (no stove), small refrigerator, microwave, and a coffeemaker. I found that it was convenient for making snacks, but one would find it difficult to cook a full meal. My unit included an en-suite bathroom with a toilet, sink, and shower. I found, overall, that space was limited, but it was very cozy and ideal for my stay. There is a washer/dryer located on the ground floor; all one needs to supply is detergent. Smoking is not allowed in the units, but there is a designated smoking area on the porch. These suites are only a 10-minute walk away from uptown St John--ideal!!

As my accommodation was being arranged by the company prior to arrival, I had to instill a certain amount of trust that I would have somewhere nice to stay. I needn't have worried. The Chipman Hill Suites is situated on the corner of Coburg Street, around a 5-minute walk to work for me. We each had our own bachelor studio, which suited our needs down to the ground. The studios consist of a queen-size bed; kitchenette with a breakfast bar; a small bathroom consisting of a WC, sink, and shower; a closet; and TV/VCR. The decor is of a high standard, and the suites have a very homey feel to them. There is also a communal living area and a porch out front, which you can sit on in the evenings and even barbeque on.

The suites are actually situated in the old government house, which has since been converted, and we were in extremely good company. The King and Queen of England actually stayed here in the ‘30s, and there are pictures on the wall to prove it. I wonder if they were in my room…

Chipman Hills Suites

This is a guesthouse that rents the units mostly for long periods of time to company personnel and for people away on business trips. It has everything you would need in the unit. It has a kitchen with a double bed and bathroom. It is only suitable for one person per room because of the size, but it is very central. You can walk to most of the uptown activities. They offer daily, weekly or monthly accommodations, which are from a bachelor to three-bedroom suites with kitchen, private bath, phone and cable included, and the units are totally non-smoking. Some of the units have a whirlpool tubs, historic detailing all unique.
