When my husband and I arrived late on a Saturday night, everyone was very happy and helpful even at the late hour. We flew into the Inverness airport and drove to the hotel. Exhausted from our flights, check-in was simple, fast, and easy. We had made arrangements through our timeshare and RCI. We didn't stay in the main hotel, but instead stayed in an A-frame lodge. After we checked in, the porter took us by car to our lodge because it was so dark and we weren't familiar with the area just yet. When we entered the lodge, the front light burned out immediately and we asked the porter to notify someone but we never heard from anyone the whole time we were there. Inside of the lodge we had two bedrooms, and a Murphy bed. There were two bathrooms, one with a shower and the other with a jacuzzi tub which was connected to one of the bathrooms. The heating was a little different than we were used to, so it took us some time to figure it out. The main sitting room was a nice size. All the other amenities in the lodge were similar to that of an apartment.

The scenery was gorgeous. There is a nice view of the mountains and a stream running in the backyard. We didn't see much wildlife around which may have been due to the weather, but we did see several rabbits and even a pheasant.

We tried the Scottish breakfast which was offered through one of the restaurants in the hotel, and my husband loved it. There is a little cafe that serves sandwiches during the day, and they are so delicious. They also had another restaurant but we didn't try it. The prices were rather high in our opinion for all the restaurants. I don't know if people in that area are used to those prices or if they were high because the restaurants were in the hotel.

The hotel is not too far away from a grocery store (Tesco) or the train station. Near the grocery are several little shops, too, including other restaurants and a book store. It's a short drive of about five minutes. Inverness is about an hour drive north.

There are a lot of activities to do in the area as well, with lots of brochures to look through. We even had a nice booklet of several activities and maps in our unit to use while we were there.

Overall, everyone was very friendly the entire time we were there. Several of the staff members were from other countries, Poland and Canada (to name a few). It was neat to talk to all kinds of people from different parts of the world.

We will visit again and may stay here in the future. We had a wonderful time and really enjoyed our stay here.

The location if great, far enough away from a major city, but you can easily access more things in a few hours.

Best Things Nearby:
Aviemore is a small city about 3 miles up the road, with a big Tesco Supermarket and a train station. There are a number of restaurants in Aviemore, too. A number of historical sites are within a 1-hour drive of the resort.

Best Things About the Resort:
Hilton Hotel had live music in the lounge area each evening, usually a two- or three-person band. Rabbits were roaming all over the resort area.

Resort Experience:
The two-bedroom units are located in a quiet, wooded area around the Hilton Hotel. A brook runs through the property. The two upstairs bedrooms only had one bathroom, but there was another full bathroom on the ground level, with a full kitchen and dining-living area. The TV only offered BBC 1, 2, and 3, which mostly gave news stories about the upcoming election in the UK.

Hilton Hotel had two or three restaurants, but we did not eat there during our stay. The only laundry room had two washing and two drying machines, so don't wait until Friday night to do laundry, or else you may never get to use one. We enjoyed this chalet every much.

Best Things Nearby:
Aviemore centre and walks through forests

Best Things About the Resort:
It was a very spacious accomodation with a swimming pool and evening entertainment.

Resort Experience:
We were very surprised at how flat Aviemore was. We did lots of walks around various lochs while our two teenaged boys hired bikes. We went to the visitor centre at Lochness, which is worth a visit. We went up the Cairngorm Mountain in the cable car and got up just in time to see stunning views when the car following us saw nothing but clouds. We found eating out quite expensive in Aviemore with meals around the £50.00 mark for four. We found Tesco in Aviemore to be very handy.

Best Things Nearby:
Everything -- you are in the heart of Scotland a short drive from Inverness -- about one hour.

Best Things About the Resort:
The two bedroom was speactacular and that is no exaggration. A formal dining room, large living room, and games room with a fully stocked kitchen made eating in a thrill.

The local area abounds with activity, including the fly fishing River Spey and the Scoth Distillery Trail.

Visit the Glenfiddich distillery for the best tour and a wee dram at the end.

Resort Experience:
The two-bedroom chalet was attached to another unit. It had spectacular amenities and was very clean and quiet. The four of us were oohing and ahing for about 10 minutes as explored the unit.

We drove from Aviemore to the north of Scotland and around the Lakes Dstrict and through the Great Glen. We can't wait to go back.

I went with my family, including; my parents, my in-laws, my wife and 1 yr. old son, and my sister in-law. What's that, like, 8 of us? We rented two condos at this resort on the river thru our time share (RCI). You'll find a fun zone for kids, a lounge with live performances for all ages. they have an arcade in the hotel too. Outside is a playground that would be condemned in the States.
The restaurant in the hotel has a buffet breakfast for $8 or so. It's a good example of a Scottish breakfast, but the price is high compared to other places.
If you have the money to spend, Stakis is fine, but I wouldn't plan a long stay like we did.
