Grand Summit Resort Hotel at Sunday River

Best Things Nearby:
If you're a ski person, you want to be either here or the Jordan Grand (which is much nicer). The area is scenic. We didn't see any moose. We kept missing them. But there seems like there's a lot here for skiers, with stores to rent, buy, etc., all of your equipment.

Best Things About the Resort:
It has the amenities it says it has. Some resorts play up their amenities.

Resort Experience:
This could be a nice resort. They just need to work on a few things, like adding (in some rooms) new mattresses and pillows. The washer and dryers actually worked (in some resorts they are constantly broken, like at The Barclay in Virginia Beach).

Eating, hiking, and moose viewing

Best Things About the Resort:
Staff was friendly and helpful. Accommodations were SPACIOUS and seemed new.

Resort Experience:
Everything was wonderful. Even when we had a bad storm and the TV lines were down, they accommodated everyone with movies in the teen room. The pool and exercise are were clean. The size of the exercise room was average. Food on the premises was good, but better dining is found around the towns. We were up the side of a mountain, so a car was necessary to fully enjoy this area. For those interested, the coast was just a 1-hour drive away. This gave us access to lobster dinners and all the lighthouses and small shops we desired.

Best Things Nearby:
Bethel is a quaint town nearby with a movie theatre. There is also a golf course here, which we did not have a chance to use since we were travelling with our two small children.

Portland ME is about a 90 minute drive away, and North Conway NH outlet shopping is about a 60 minute drive away, which are both nice day trips.

Best Things About the Resort:
The resort is very well kept, and the heated outdoor pool is great if you have children who do not enjoy cold outdoor pools. The exercise room is well equipped and in good condition.

Our one bedroom unit had a bedroom with two queen beds, and a living room with a murphy bed, so the four of us slept quite comfortably. There was also a full kitchen and two bathrooms, which made it quite comfortable.

Resort Experience:
Although this resort is relatively isolated, we enjoyed our stay. We did not particpate in any of the advertised activities (mountain biking, skateboarding and scooters, as well as moose sighting trips), which would probably have improved the overall enjoyment of this resort.

This is probably a great resort during the winter, during ski season.
