The Rushes

Best Things Nearby:
Door County! Actually, we really enjoyed the fact that it was on the 'quiet side' of Door County and that from Bailey's Harbor there isn't anything farther than a 15 minute drive!

Best Things About the Resort:
We really liked the seclusion of the resort. You feel like you are at summer camp sometimes. The unit we were in was back in the woods and we couldn't see our neighbors unless we really tried.

Resort Experience:
The Rushes is a wonderful place to stay while in Door County! We just loved the place. It is set in its own Wilderness Preserve and is just beautiful. All of the units are two-story, two-bedroom townhouses with the second floor being the entire master suite. Also, each unit has its own one-car attached garage and fireplace. I can't say enough how much we loved the garage! It has its own opener attached to your key ring and it's just a really nice addition to the whole unit.

The living area was nicely decorated and the fireplace was a huge, stone delight that ran up the wall all the way to the vaulted ceiling. Though we didn't use it, the unit came with plenty of firewood for a week. The kitchen included just about everything you'd have at home except, if you wanted a griddle or a larger item, you had to get it from the front desk. The unit also included two decks overlooking a great section of woods. One was the main deck off the living area and the other was a private balcony off the master suite.

The staff were very accommodating and were very nice and pleasant to us and our kids. When we checked in they called me by name and even verified that they had two cribs and two high chairs in the unit already for our kids. We would definitely go back!!

Best Things Nearby:
There are a lot of shops in the nearby towns. Lake Michigan is beautiful. Plenty of restaurants nearby.

Best Things About the Resort:
The resort was very well kept, spacious, and had plenty to do.

Resort Experience:
This was a perfect vacation for us. The resort has everything. They offer crafts a few times a week. The fee is just for the materials. They have several different choices of crafts to make. We chose stepping stones and they came out really nice. I am actually going to start making them on my own now that I know how. The resort also offers free boat rentals. They have paddleboats, sail boats, rowboats, and canoes. We took out the rowboat and went fishing and had a great time. There is also an indoor pool, games room, pool table, ping-pong, shuffle board, tennis, putting green, volleyball, and horseshoes. At night we rented movies for either $1.00 or $3.00, depending on what movie you chose. They had a good selection to choose from.

We were looking for an inexpensive and relaxing vacation, and this definitely met our needs. Since there were so many free activities at the resort, that kept us pretty well occupied. There are several shops to visit that are all close by. If you look in the newspaper that comes in the resort’s binder when you check in, it has a list of all of the activities and when and where they are going on. That was very helpful. We went to a lot of craft shows and just walked around each of the little shops along the lake. The area is also full of parks, charter boat fishing, and plenty of good restaurants. I would definitely recommend this resort to travel to.

Best Things Nearby:
Lake Michigan and Green Bay.

Best Things About the Resort:
I really enjoyed the fireplace and the stocked firewood bin.

Resort Experience:
This is a sprawling resort on a smaller lake in Door County. The amenities are very nice with an indoor pool and spa area. The property is attractive and well-maintained. The units are all two-bedroom condos in duplex cottages. With vaulted ceilings and ample floor space they are spacious and airy.

The resort staff is courteous and professional. The unit was very well-maintained and comfortable. The kitchen was amply outfitted and practical. The master bedroom has a king bed and is upstairs in a world all of its own. It has a balcony and a private bathroom.

The setting has all of the charm and beauty of rural Wisconsin. We were there before the onset of the tourist season. This gave us a quiet getaway with an "off the beaten path" feeling. All in all, it was a wonderful vacation.

Best Things Nearby:
The small towns are one of the best things nearby (.e Fish Creek, Egg Harbor) however, in the winter lots of stores are closed for the season. In second place are the numerous areas to go hiking. One of the best and most popular (in the summer) is Peninsula State Park. Even though it's winter, a couple of the wineries are open year round (limited hours) for winetasting, call ahead.

Best Things About the Resort:
The timeshare has tons of daily indoor crafty activities one can participate in. They also offer free ski, snowshoe, and ice skate usage to use on their huge property. They give you a weeks worth of firewood for your fireplace. The pool, hot tub, and steam room are also added benefits in the winter time. The resort is also located no more than a 30 minute drive to the best wineries and towns (ie Egg Harbor, Fish Creek, Simon Creek Winery).

Resort Experience:
In winter there are not a lot of tourists in the area, so a lot of shops are closed for the season. Your best bet is to buy your food and cook it in your room. There are a few restaurants that are open year round, just ask the front desk for some suggestions.

The resort rooms have all of the utensils you would need, however for the large items you will need to check those out at the front desk. A gas grill is also provided for those who like to grill year round.

Inside the unit the channel selection for the TV is satisfactory for those not used to satellite TV, so either pack some movies/books for the night or rent their movies/books for an extremely reasonable price. The furniture and carpet has been well maintained over the years so the place always looks nice when you first arrive. The resort has a few groomed skiing/snowshoeing trails for the beginner as well as a small ice skating rink. In addition to the large living space, your resort has its own garage and remote control garage door opener.

This resort is definitely worth the Gold Crown given to it as the staff was also very helpful and pleasent. You will most definitely enjoy your stay weather it's in the winter/summer, for a family vacation, or a vacation for two. Oh yeah, the sunrises are beautiful over Kangaroo Lake.
