Beaches

Best Things About the Resort:
The size of the condo and near Hapuna Beach.

Resort Experience:
We could have lived here. We liked it so much that we came back home and purchased a week here. The space was exceptionl. The staff was real helpful, and especially with the welcome meeting in planning our week.

No, it is not on the beach but some of your best beaches on the island are 10-15 minutes away. The resort is quite and being golf lovers we were excited about being on the second hole. I watched the sunrise from my balcony and we drove to the beach for the sunset...you can see it on the way if you do not want to drive far. It was only a 30 minute drive to Kona and it was nice to get back to the peacful end of the city after a full day of activities. Paniola is also near a grocery store for your convience and the prices are about the same as Kona.

The magnificent scenery! Shopping center with restaurants nearby.

Best Things About the Resort:
Well-maintained, clean, and spacious units.

Resort Experience:
Paniola Greens is in a beautiful setting. I read all the reviews for this resort before getting there, so I was prepared for the wind. The first three days we had beautiful weather and no wind...then the winds started and continued all through the rest of our stay. However, the winds didn't spoil our time there and we enjoyed our stay very much.

We had a second floor unit. Once we arrived I wished we had a ground floor unit as not only do you have to go up to your unit, but up a long flight of stairs to the bedrooms. The master bedroom and bath are very spacious and we had a beautiful view overlooking the golf course. The second bedroom is quite small and the drawer space etc is not too great. The main floor is very nice with a spacious living/dining room. The kitchen is quite small, but sufficient for the amount of cooking we did. The kitchens are not equipped with a lot of things, and we found we had to frequently wash dishes to keep us supplied.

The check in/out was done very efficiently by the staff and were very accommodating to all our needs. Even though this resort is probably "out of the way" for those who want to spend a lot of time in the Kona area, we did not find it that inconvenient.

The staff helped us schedule two great activities. We scheduled a full-day tour of the entire island that was definitely a must for first-timers. We also scheduled a two-hour plane ride that never happened because of the mechanical problems, and then the weather. They were very helpful and gave us a refund without any questions asked. I would definitely recommend this resort!

Best Things About the Resort:
Mid week "Free Clean Up".

Resort Experience:
Accommodations were nice. I missed the whirlpool bath in unit that many gold crown resorts have. I enjoyed the once a week mid clean up service but troubled by the $5 a day charge it cost to run the air conditioner and $2.60 a day transient tax charged by the state. These little add on costs drive me crazy when I’m already paying a maintenance fee on my own time share.

The office staff was quite helpful telling us where to travel in and around the "Big Island". Paniolo Greens is located about 25 miles north from Kona, where you’ll find all the restaurants and shopping of a big city. Kona features a real nice eating and shopping district along the beach front. It was just a pain having to drive 25 miles each way to access this type of activity.

The Waikoloa resort area is located 6 miles from Paniolo Greens and features a Hilton and Marriott Resort. The public beach at Waikoloa is made up of both black and white sand crystals which are not particularly easy on the foot. If you like white sandy beaches try out Spencer Beach about 20 miles to the north.

If you like to get away from it all the Paniolo Greens is a good place for you. If you prefer something more active try a resort in Kona.

Best Things About the Resort:
Lots of space and well-equipped.
Golf course.
Grocery store is walking distance.
Internet availability in office for checking email.

Resort Experience:
Our 2 bedroom unit had a king master bedroom, upstairs, with a balcony overlooking the golf course, a 2nd bedroom on the 2nd floor with 2 twins and a bathroom. There was a 3rd bathroom on the main floor. There was a tv in each bedroom and a large tv with a VCR in the "family room." The kitchen was well-equipped with the basics as timeshare kitchens go: good sized fridge with icemaker, blender, toaster, microwave, coffeepot, large pot, saucepan, skillet, broiling pan, cookie sheet, collander, salad bowl, 2 casseroles, lots of glasses, 6 placesettings, knives. They included some coffee, creamer and sugar and salt and pepper, things that we have not found in all previous timeshares. They also included one load's worth of laundry soap -- something else not included in other time shares we've visited.

Waikoloa Village is very windy, at least in the spring when we were there. Using the pool in the evening was marginal because with the wind it was cool. We never swam in the pool during the day.

Their activities desk has beach equipment available for daily and weekly rental. They also have board games. They had activities, like hula lessons, shell crafts, etc. available throughout the week, for a cost. We didn't participate in any of those.

Nothing.

Best Things About the Resort:
Very nice roomy units.

Resort Experience:
A good place to sleep. Nothing nearby and no activities to speak of. We requested an ocean view and got a noisy highway view. Shopping center nearby with adequate grocery store. Surrounding topography was desert-like. Hapuna Beach nearby was fantastic.
