Fairfield Glade

Best Things Nearby:
Two golf courses, two boating lakes, and horseback riding are on-site. Custard Cabin is adjacent, so don't miss it. There are two state parks on the doorstep. Chattanooga, Knoxsville, Gatlinburg, and Nashville all within easy driving distance

Best Things About the Resort:
It’s a great base for traveling around eastern Tennessee if you've never been in this part of the world. The lakes, golf courses, and general greenery remind you at every turn that you are out in the country, as does the wildlife. When was the last time you took photographs of a skunk on your doorstep! The unit was excellent and resort staff very helpful. I also think that a lot of the staff lives in the community, and because of that, take a pride in the area and are desperate to keep up the high standard.

Resort Experience:
The grounds are well looked after and the units are in the surrounding woods. The unit was up to a very, very high standard, one of the nicest I've visited. It’s built on three levels, so that as you go in the door, bedroom no. 1 is on that level. You go up a short flight of stairs to an open-plan living room, dining area in an alcove, and kitchen. On the lower level, you find a huge bedroom with a massive bed and an adjoining bathroom with the biggest Jacuzzi bath in the US. Check-in is about half a mile away, but the staff is excellent and an Internet facility is available, although the queuing system was a bit random and caused a bit of friction. The only possible criticism would be the leisure facilities, which are a bit outdated, and the leisure staff seemed a bit vague when asked questions. In an ideal world, the resort could do with a really modern sports hall, but to be fair, in addition to the wonderful lakes and golf courses, there were tennis courts and two outdoor pools (one is adults-only) and an old-fashioned putt-putt course. It really depends on what you are after. In our case, these minor shortfalls did not affect our group, but it might disappoint some people.

Best Things About the Resort:
Golf, outdoor pool that you can dive in, fishing, sandy beaches for lake swimming

Resort Experience:
Fairfield Glade is an interesting resort with far more retirement homes than timeshare or rentals. You need a car to get to the pools, as they are NOT next to the timeshare units. Indoor pool is nice, with a deep divable end. Outdoor pool is excellent, large with a large, deep, divable section. Two Lakes offer swimming at a sandy beach, but one has too many geese! The small lakes offer fishing and no-wake boating. The golf is excellent and very inexpensive. Free outdoor concert on Monday nights. Shopping in the area is mediocre. This is a quiet, very relaxing vacation for us that we all enjoy. Too hilly for out-of-shape me to enjoy bike or scooter. Internet access is Earthlink only (no AOL there), or you can buy it for a week at the front desk.

2 Bedroom Lockoff. The 'A' side had nice Great Room: living room with stone fireplace and huge couch, smallish TV, VCR. Dining area, full nicely equipped kitchen. Bedroom with King-size bed & TV, small "Spa" room with large jacuzzi tub overlooking the woods, full bath, small deck.

The 'B' side had small living room with pull-out couch and larger TV/VCR and small kitchen/dining area (full size refrigerator); decent sized bedroom with queen bed and TV; full bath. All on one floor, a few steps on entry porch.

Golf, lakes, trees, serene, family-oriented.

Best Things About the Resort:
Very quiet, well furnished, well kept, clean, trash pick up daily, nice balcony in the trees.

Resort Experience:
Two bedrooms and two baths, pretty typical layout, nice well equipped kitchen, but best of all, quiet away from traffic. Easy to get to small grocery store, but must have car. Walking only for exercise, too far to walk to any activity.
