Our two-bedroom condo was beautifully decorated and well equipped with all the conveniences of home (minus the dishwasher). There is no A/C (at present), but the various fans and sea breezes provide all the coolness you desire. We certainly appreciated the sun beds on the very large patio.

Best Things Nearby:
Beach right next door as well as some good restaurants beside the beach. A Chinese restaurant beside the beach offered excellent deals especially lunchtime specials.

Best Things About the Resort:
Location and grounds.

Resort Experience:
The resort is big and has a sister resort, the hotel which is up a hill and further from the beach. Our apartment was next to the lift which meant noise from people returning at night. The unit was satisfactory except for the bedroom which was tiny. The double bed just fitted making it difficult to get in and out. Not suitable for claustraphobics! We were amongst several others who complained about the poor standard of accommodation. We were offered a move to the hotel, but decided to stay as we did have a nice view from the balcony and were right next to the pool and beach.

Best Things Nearby:
The Strip for the restaurants and the beautiful sandy beach.

Best Things About the Resort:
The resort has its own sandy beach. They give you a charge card for your stay -- use it to get a 10% discount on anything you buy at the hotel, including food, drinks, etc. Settle up on check-out. Also they exchange travellers cheques in reception so it saves going to a bank/exchange.

Resort Experience:
It's a big hotel. The apartments nearest the beach have been virtually finished from re-decoration, including new windows and furniture. It looks nice. There are lovely floral displays everywhere. As there is only one restaurant on site, I would have hoped for a bigger and better equipped kitchen, but it was functional nonetheless. We had a good-size apartment, with two beds, two bathrooms, and lots of storage.

The hotel has only a few lifts, so you will have to climb some steps to get to your apartment. There are lots of porters, so use them for the cases. The staff are very friendly and helpful, and English is the second language. Parking is available 50m away in a secure car park as it is very limited on site.

The main pool is cold -- trust me -- but perhaps only because the weather is hot. They are building a garden/patio area where the old car park was at the beach front, next to the bowls area, but access to the beach is still ok.

Best Things Nearby:
plenty of good dining places, beach to sit or walk on, supermarket on site, little supermarket and McDonald's a short car journey away

Best Things About the Resort:
Friendly staff, cleanliness, ease of getting there from the airport, central for Vilamoura and Albufera

Resort Experience:
Apartments are well appointed, everything is scrupulously clean. The reception staff are very helpful, cleaners brilliant and friendly, bowling green and ocean bar with the library good. The small pool is heated for the children, and the jacuzzis and sauna nice to relax in. The on-site facilities are well maintained, as is the garden. The new facility for supervised car parking is really convenient and saves a lot of worry about your hire car. It’s an all-around OK place to go for a relaxing break.

Clube Praia da Oura

It's a fairly old resort, so some of the accommodations have yet to be upgraded. Most of the apartments have been refurbished and are comfortable and well-equipped. The others have rather basic furnishings but are still quite well-equipped, especially the cooking areas which are well stocked with good quality kitchen ware. All apartments have balconies, most with a sea view, and all with their own sunbeds, tables, and chairs. The complex is very large, and runs all the way to the beach, so if you're staying in the appartments at that end you just walk out of your accommodation and take a short stroll down to the beautiful coves.

The complex has a good restaurant, a large (but unheated) swimming pool, a heated children's pool, and four jacuzzis and a sauna. There's a good flat green bowling area by the side of the beach, and a pleasant 'owner's bar' with lovely sea views. There's a piano bar and a small night club with live entertainment most evenings.

Entertainment isn't, on the whole, very exciting, but it's there, anyway. They have 'theme' weeks - check the website to see. There's a sister hotel up the hill, and you can use the facilities there, too.

Within walking distance (up a hill, but you can do it by utilizing the lifts in the complex) are lots of shops, bars, and restaurants, and public transportation is near by. The main Albufeira centre is a short bus ride away and there's a shuttle bus from the complex at a small charge.

The down side is that it's an expensive taxi ride from the airport, although the Clube does have a shuttle service at around £8 - £10 per person. You have to use it for a return journey though.

It's a really nice place for a holiday - just be aware that there are a lot of steps. Although they have built slopes around the complex to take account of wheelchairs, they're very steep and would take considerable muscle to wheel an adult up them! You'd need to let the Clube know if you were using a wheelchair as some apartments are accessible only by steps. Amazingly co-operative and helpful staff there - nothing is too much trouble for them.
