Resort Experience:
We stayed at the Alfagar Village, a 20-minute walk from "the strip" near Albufeira. The accommodation was very good, quiet at this time of year, but with everything open. Set a little out of the way, a lengthy walk or short (5€) taxi takes you to the bars and restaurants. Located close to the Montechoro Beach Club and Clube Oura Praia, the Alfagar has excellent swimming pools while access to the beach is through "a lot" of steps. They are okay unless you have mobility problems. The staff couldn't be more helpful, and the cleanliness was excellent.
There is a car hire and a bicycle hire from reception if you’re feeling energetic. If the weather is good, the resort is great, with the beach nearby. If it isn't very good, you'll need a car to get out and about. I recommend the Koala Garden restaurant in Areas De S Joao-excellent food at very good prices. It is located on Rua Almeida Garrett.
