I found this resort by searching the internet for "gulf-front resorts," and then I started reading the reviews. The reviews were mixed. I expected to find an old resort that would not live up to the four-diamond rating. I was pleasantly surprised. This resort charges an additional $15 per room daily activity fee, which includes parking, the use of on-site paddleboats, ocean trikes, beach-front cabañas, tennis, miniature golf, and more.
I reserved a gulf-front hotel room with a balcony, which was located in the Jacaranda Building. (This building is nonsmoking.) The room was spacious and had a small refrigerator, microwave, toaster, and coffeemaker. They even supplied a few dishes. We had a room with a king-size bed, and there was a small dining table in the room. The balcony was very narrow. In fact, it was too narrow to sit on without angling your chair.
The grounds were very well kept. The staff was amazing. Once we parked our car at 5pm on Friday, we never left until checking out Sunday morning. The food was great; whether you are looking for a submarine sandwich or a full gourmet dinner, it is available.
Large hammocks that easily accommodate two adults hung along the beach walkway, and there was always one available. The beach cabañas that lined the beach were included in the daily activity fee. The "cabañas" were actually two padded chairs connected in the middle by a table and optionally shaded (very comfy).
The resort has four pools. One is covered (it is actually under one of the buildings) and one is designated adults only. I would be sure I wasn’t in the building right next to the pool (Hibiscus Building).
There were so many activities for kids – a rock-climbing wall and a 3-story inflatable water slide ($30 for an all-day pass), as well as movies by the pool and hourly organized programs.
My biggest complaint about the resort is that the bed was uncomfortable (not too bad for 2 nights) and the foam pillows were awful. If I planned to arrive by car, I would definitely bring my down mattress pad and pillows.
I would have rated this resort as VERY HIGHLY recommended, but while we were there, they were experiencing a red tide, so there were thousands of dead fish on the beach.
