Best Things Nearby:
The best thing nearby was the ocean. Other than that, if nearby means within 15 minutes of the resort, there is NOTHING AROUND!

Best Things About the Resort:
The unit was very nice and very spacious, with a vaulted living room with skylights and a screened-in balcony. It faced the ocean, so you had cool breezes coming in, although the unit did have air-conditioning. Most buildings are not on the ocean, as is seen in the picture, but you are nearby.

Resort Experience:
Edisto Island (pronounced ED-is-to, not e-DIS-to) is located on the ocean in South Carolina about an hour south of Charleston. There are a series of islands connecting to the mainland, and the most popular is Hilton Head, which is between E.I. and Charleston. Edisto is extremely rural and in the backwoods.

The resort has the typical buildings you would find at a timeshare resort. From what I saw, there were some amenities, such as a fitness room and a swimming pool, but it was not the type of place where you could stay the whole week and not run out of things to do. There were several signs saying to not annoy the alligators, but we never saw any. The most common thing we did while at Ocean Ridge was check our email.

There are about three restaurants a few minutes from the resort, and the Old Post Office, by far the best in the area, is about 15 minutes. The oceanfront houses, which run about 1 million dollars each, are amazing.

The best thing we found out about Edisto Island was that it was in between Charleston, SC, and Savannah, GA. However, that meant a lot of driving. We went on a day trip to Savannah (about 2 hours away) and probably went three times to Charleston. Therefore, since we flew in and out of Charleston, there were only two days that did not involve a lot of driving. It was not the most restful of vacations.

I would recommend Edisto Island for people who want a lot of quiet, want to curl up with a good book, or just want to sit and watch the tide. If you want to have a lot to do, restaurants to enjoy, and sights to see, then stay in Charleston and save yourself the driving.

Best Things Nearby:
We could walk over to the beach from the resort in less than ten minutes. There wasn't very much to do on the island, but we collected a lot of good shells at the beach.

Best Things About the Resort:
There was a pool right outside our unit. We also liked the proximity to the beach. The area we stayed in was newly built, so the units were clean and in good condition. The washer and dryer in the unit were a big plus for our family. Tennis courts were available, although we had to drive to the main part of the resort in order to get to them. However, the courts were not very well-maintained.

Resort Experience:
Overall, Edisto Island is an enjoyable vacation spot, but if you are looking for lots of activity or nightlife, then Edisto Island is not for you. My family enjoyed going to the beach, relaxing, and collecting shells, but this was about all there was to do. There were some nature activities available as well. We enjoyed all the restaurants we ate at, and overall, we enjoyed our stay.

Best Things Nearby:
The serpentarium, Cypress gardens

Best Things About the Resort:
The secluded, wonderful stretches of beach.

Resort Experience:
Some people like the crowds and atmosphere of the boardwalk beach areas, but not our family. Edisto was perfect...the unit was clean, modern, and well appointed with anything you might need. It had TV, stereo, etc., for when you wanted to get in touch with the world outside. The screened-in porch was wonderful for watching sunsets or birds or sudden storms. We saved a lot of money by eating most of our meals in the unit, and treating ourselves by going out every other day or so.

The resort had plenty of activities, as well as a pool, game room, weight room, etc. The staff was courteous and helpful, although we really did not need anything while we were there. When we did go to the beach, we were sometimes the only ones out, and actually had dolphins swim very close to us, which was awesome. It was a totally relaxing, great time at the beach.
