Big Scam -- Dirty Place

  • August 10, 2009
  • Rated 1 of 5 by Kelly Kelly from Crown Point, Indiana
We were contacted at Navy Pier and told if we would go and look we would receive a Vegas trip on the strip airfare included on a major airline.
Guess what they LIED. We are staying at a comfort in or Hampton 10 Miles off the strip.
I even called and talked to multiple people before I went to make sure it was all good they even told me it would be a hotel like MGM Grand or Luxor.
Not EVEN close 10 MILES OFF THE strip. Plus you have to pay $50 per person in taxes but they say you get it back when you show up tp the hotel. HAVE YOU EVER heard of in your life getting taxes back cmon.
And on top of it all taking my whole Sunday afternoon and being treated like crap by a guy in the Illinois Resort and when I went to complain about him they all said yeah you must of caught him on a bad day he does that alot. How does an employee like this keep his job. C’mon that right there put me off to a bad start and that was before we got into a dirty dirty small car that took us around to view the property. Oh yes and this was after we were told we would be taken around the resort in a limo. Hmmmm Limo/Escort yeah I guess they are kinda close.
Hope this helps you make your decision on buying here.

Best Things Nearby:
Chicago, shoppping, sight-seeing and small towns to just enjoy. Farmland rolling country side.

Best Things About the Resort:
It's real quiet in the fall. condos are nice and they have a campground, also great amenities for the busy season, and just enough to help entertain yourself in the off season. Basketball court, indoor pool, golf, and lots of QUIET.

Resort Experience:
My condo was a lock-out type. I went needing time to catch up on personal paperwork and did just that. The space was nice and there was a town close by where I got shopping done, and a quaint country store that got me through a need for a snack that was just down the road from the gate. The unit was very clean. The kitchen was tiny, but it worked. It's best to arrive in the daylight because of the dark countryside. RCI directions worked great!!! I'd love to try camping here in the summer before it got too hot. A great place for family and friends.

Best Things Nearby:
Chicago, easy access by interstate
Variety of shopping options, including outlet malls and major shopping
State parks and Illinois waterways
Cycling or kayaking nearby
Skydive Chicago nearby

Best Things About the Resort:
Amazing variety of activities
Five-hole executive golf course in excellent condition, with challenging design for all abilities of golfers
Two huge swimming pools, one indoor and one outdoor
Variety of other activities, all free

Resort Experience:
The Fox River Resort is located 10 minutes north of Ottawa, Illinois, in the village of Norway, Illinois. The location is convenient to a variety of activities, or you could choose to remain on the extensive resort property and do different things every day. The property includes a campground that is separate from the condo development and very private. In addition to the well-stocked family-activity centre (where you can pick up games, tennis rackets, horseshoes, volleyball or basketball, canoes, or mini-golf putters, all free), there is river access for a quiet picnic or fishing on the Fox River. The pools are very large (175-person capacity) and the executive golf course are all well maintained. Units are comfortable, although not luxurious, as they are decorated in a "lodge" theme. There is excellent staff support, with quick service if things need repair or replacement.

Best Things Nearby:
Chicago is close enough to go to every day if need be. Depending on traffic, it would take anywhere from 45 minutes to an hour and a half. As long as you try to avoid rush hour, you should be okay.

Chicago is full of things to do, so you can never get bored with it. Even though this resort is outside of Chicago, it is nice to get out of the everyday hustle-and-bustle and relax at the resort.

Best Things About the Resort:
The resort offers everything you can think of. We took a few days to enjoy the amenities at the resort. They offer golf, horseback riding, boating at the on-site lake, a games room, and a pool. You name it, they had it. The rooms were very nice and well kept. We had a two-bedroom with two full baths. Each bedroom had its own private entrance to a bathroom.

Resort Experience:
Though the resort is out by itself with not much around, it doesn't take long to get to anywhere you would want to go. It gives you the best of both worlds. You can enjoy a nice relaxing vacation out in the country by just staying at the resort, or you can drive into the city and enjoy all of the excitement the city has to offer.

Once you get into the city, you can drive along Lakeshore Drive and enjoy the beautiful view of Lake Michigan. We went to the Navy Pier and enjoyed a boat cruise out on the lake.

If you decide to stay back at the resort, they offer a snack bar on site that has cheeseburgers, etc. so you can actually each a meal there and spend a full day at the resort without having to leave at all and still be entertained.

We stayed at this resort to go to a Beatles convention in Chicago. It worked out perfectly. We drove into downtown Chicago 2 days for the convention, then another 2 days to enjoy the sites. We spent the other 3 days enjoying the amenities at the resort. I would definitely recommend this resort.

Best Things Nearby:
The town of Ottawa is about 12 miles away. It has everything from quaint downtown shopping and dining to your national chains along I-80. Another 20 miles west on I-80 is the town of Utica, where Starved Rock State Park is located. You can spend the whole day hiking along trails or viewing many spectacular overlooks along the Illinois River. We also attended the annual Burgoo Fall Festival in Utica. All the streets are lined with crafts and vendors, which makes for a day of shopping fun. If you go north from the resort about 45 miles, you are in the western Chicago suburbs for more great dining and shopping.

Best Things About the Resort:
The resort has a lot of amenities, like a pond, huge indoor and outdoor pools, executive 5-hole, 3-par golf course, mini golf, tennis/basketball/volleyball courts, game room, and horseback riding. We were not even asked to take the "tour", I guess since we didn't own there?

Resort Experience:
This Silverleaf Resort like one in Texas -- it had a similar layout and furnishings. We traded through RCI (like before), and their buildings are up and away from the rest of the resort. The resort is divided between a campground and condos. We stayed on the top floor (3rd), and looking off the balcony, there was a wooded area, which was very beautiful with the fall colors. A call to the office got the non-working coffee maker, bedroom TV, and stolen VCR replaced instantly. This is an excellent place to kick back and relax by yourself or with a family.
