One factor in how enjoyable it will be for you to stay out here is transportation. They do a free pickup from the airport and advertise tourist bookings and pickups. However, we found getting to and from Cairns from here to be too inconvenient as not all operations would come this far out, and if they did they charged more. So we rented a car. If your plans include being mobile, particularly going into Cairns a lot, you may prefer to stay in Cairns if you don't plan on having a car at your disposal. But if you have your own transport or are more interested in enjoying the surrounding Barron River National Park, than this is a wonderful place to stay. It's quiet, beautiful and really not that far from surrounding attractions at all.
The accomodation varies - it's best to go for a two bedroom resort villa (between $85-$115 AUS). They're new, clean, and quite nice, with tv, good kitchen, deck, etc. Good for families, or in our case three adults.
There's a big drop off if you have to take a "cabin". They can still sleep as many people but just aren't as nice in that their kitchen is inefficient and you'll have to use shared bathrooms. They're also older and in need of refurbishing.
The place has helpful staff and great facilities. There's laundry, a good pool, outdoor bbq facilites, a nearby restaurant, and river rafting leaves from across the road. The surrounding area has great walking, canoeing, and swimming possibilities all easily done from the tourist park.
Camping is also available here, and it's be a wonderful place for that.
