Great Location!

Great Location!

We got a great deal during off-season at the Roca Mar. I had researched it online before our trip but decided against it, thinking it would be too far away from everything. We were staying at another hotel in town, but hadn't been able to sleep because of the street noise. So when we happened to walk past the Roca Mar after breakfast at Cazuela M&J and realized how close it really was, we switched hotels immediately.
What we liked about the hotel:
Balconies right on the ocean - the sound of the waves blocked all other noise, and the wind off the water kept the room cool. It was also a great place to read in the early morning as the sun was rising.
Cold filtered water and instant coffee in the little lounge area, both free.
A nice little pool and deck chairs on the deck overlooking the ocean.
But the best thing was the hotel's location! Not in the touristy part of town, so it was much quieter. Also, it was right next to the supermarket and the basketball court. We could buy a cold drink and sit on the bleachers and watch the kids play in the evenings. The walk to all the restaraunts and to North Beach was really not that bad.
If you're traveling on a budget and not just in Mexico for partying and drinking, this is the place to stay. We loved it and will stay there again if we ever get to go back to Isla Mujeres.

Roca Mar

Their Web Page: . Roca Mar is a 3-star hotel. The best part is the sound of the crashing waves from the ocean, which is half a stone's throw from the hotel. From your ocean-view balcony you can enjoy the spectacular vista to the east. Watch the sun rise each day and sleep like a baby with the constant sound of the waves providing white noise and a breeze to cool you down. There is no air-conditioning at this hotel. It is not necessary with an effective ceiling fan in every room. There are windows in every room but also, there are louvered blinds that you can leave open all day.

I had a triple-room with 2 double beds and two twin beds pushed together (think king bed with your own sheets). There are double and single rooms also available. Other amenities include free coffee, a refrigerator in each room, filtered water, a pool by the sea, and 24-hour front desk service for your convenience and protection. I will return to this hotel. It is, however, becoming very popular. The location is great--not on North Beach, but not far from it by foot.
