We were told that the hotel pool and hot tub were open until midnight, yet it was cold and chained up when we went to use it. Others were told that the hot tub beside the waterslide was open until eleven, yet the gates were chained when they came to use it.
Grocery shopping is quite a distance and you can't just "run to the store" for something. The market in the resort is sorely lacking for supplies. For example, the resort provides bar-b-ques, but I couldn't get hamburger buns or buns of any sort from the market! Moreover, the bar-b-que in our area was not working the night we tried to make hamburgers.
This is one of those resorts that is considered so highly desirable that non-memers can only go once every 4 years. That, in itself, sets my expectations for the type of resort it will be and the service it will provide. I was sorely disappointed when it did not meet my expectations.

The proprieters live right in the hotel, on the main floor. They were very helpful and assisted us in selecting a restaurant and gave advice on what to do in Thunder Bay the next day.

I liked that they had everything there on site from restaurants (ice cream to fine dining), specialty shops, tours, dinner theater, and activity centers.Resort Experience:The Welk Resort is nestled in the side of a mountain. Although it is off the beaten path, it is also out of the traffic and mess that is the California roadways.
It is definitely a top-notch resort. The rooms are well decorated and stocked. The resort staff is pleasant and accommodating. There is a beautiful golf course and the grounds are well kept. They are about to open what looks like a really cool pool; it was under construction when we were there, but it looks like it will be great. We enjoyed everything.

The resort itself is not just for bubble music lovers! With great golf, a great restaurant, beautiful grounds, and spacious units designed for maximum privacy, it''s one of the few places I''ve been able to truly relax.
Its only downside is that there''s not much for kids to do; however, you can access literally dozens of first-rate activities, attractions, and beaches in under 45 minutes. And besides, you gotta love a place with breakfast menu items called the "ah one" and the "ah two."
