Best Things Nearby:
San Diego, San Diego Zoo, Wild Animal Park, LegoLand, Sea World, beaches (within 30 minutes), Swap Meet, Padres Baseball

Best Things About the Resort:
Suites were large and roomy with all of the amenities. Each area had its own pool and rec room. Lots to do ... golf, swim, shop, fish.

Resort Experience:
Southern California is beautiful to begin with. We liked Lawrence Welk because it was away from all of the hustle and bustle of the beach communities yet easy to get to anywhere we wanted to go. The resort has plenty of activities for kids as well as adults ... golfing, fishing, swimming, ping pong and pool, shopping, theater, bus trips, etc. We would thoroughly recommend this resort to both families and couples.

Best Things Nearby:
San Diego Wild Animal Park is about 20 minutes away and was #1 place to visit for all of us. Legoland is about 25 minutes away and both my 3 year old and 12 year old loved it. My 12 year old was just young enough to enjoy Legoland but older children may not enjoy it. Sea World was approximately 45 minutes away and was a really great place to visit.

Best Things About the Resort:
The outside of the resort is so clean that you can walk around barefoot and not step on anything. There were so many activities for all ages. The clubhouse closest to us had a pool table, shuffleboard and air hockey. There was a pingball table outside, 2 swimming pools, a spa and a childrens water park area. The new water slide was great. The clubhouse had a childrens library and a library for adults with computers. There was a big plasma TV with movies to watch. The resort is beautiful but the downside is housekeeping. We wanted to BBQ the second night and found out the BBQ tools came from housekeeping. It took them about 1 1/2 hours to deliver them after many phone calls. I also had to ask them clean our patio furniture and sink. The sink smelled really bad. Other than housekeeping, you will love the resort. My entire family cannot wait to return.

Resort Experience:
Do the timeshare presentation and you can get two adult tickets to either Legoland or Wild Animal park. This resort is very beautiful. Our room was on the second floor overlooking the 15th hole of the golf course. My family had breakfast every morning out on the balcony and watched the golfers. There is construction going on. We were right across from the construction and there almost no noise coming from it. This was a beautiful resort.

Best Things Nearby:
Beaches, Torrey Pines preservation, Torrey Pines golf course, and wild animal park.

Best Things About the Resort:
Tennis courts, sauna, hot tubs and pools, and recreation available on site. Very nice accommodations.

Resort Experience:
We had a wonderful week at this resort. The accommodations were beautiful. Everything was clean, updated, and in good condition. The resort allowed for relaxation and the many scenic and tourist sites of Southern California were within a one- or two-hour drive. The service and concierge could be a little better – the resort was somewhat oriented to older people with little help in adventure from the concierge. The tennis courts, foosball, ping-pong, pool table, ice cream, and other things make it a great place for a family.

The two-bedroom unit was spacious, clean, and well-equipped. Dinner theater was excellent. Restaurant was good. Shopping area was fun. Many pools, but too cold in January to use them.

The views of the mountains were beautiful. My only complaint was the uninformed concierge desk. They were not able to answer any questions we had for them. This was a fun trip and a lovely place to stay.

Best Things About the Resort:
Well designed for people of all ages.

Resort Experience:
We spent a great week at the Welk Resort in tucked away in a hillside of Escondido. The variety of green colors was amazing, from the golf course greens, the avocado orchards adorning the hills, and the different succulents southern California grows like weeds. Reluctantly we booked two two-bedroom units for five adults and four children to share, hoping the kids would not bother the older guests at the resort.

Little did we know that the resort was planned for families. Yes, there is plenty to do if you are an older couple that religiously watched the Lawrence Welk Show TV program every Sunday evening. This fantastic resort brings generations of families together. If you are looking for activities, the resort has many special events planned from teen dances to ball room dancing, a pool for kids to a swimming pool for adults only, water aerobics to personal fitness center, golf lessons, crafts for children and adults, chartered trips to Tijuana and other close locations, etc. There is even a small theater that hosts a variety of old Broadway plays. Other resort amenities include restaurants, gift and clothing boutiques, and tennis courts.

Our two units were next to each other, which was very convenient for meal preparation and spending time together. The floor plan was spacious and methodically planned for family living. The center of the unit was a great room: living room, dining area, large kitchen, and patio or balcony. There was a large round table that we could easily squeeze in seven people for a meal or even all nine of us for playing games after dinner. The kitchen was very open with a small breakfast counter; it was large enough for three females to be in the kitchen working at once. The kitchen was fully equipped with all the basics most cooks could possibly use for meal preparation. In addition to the kitchen, there was a gas barbeque area just across the street with patio furniture for outdoor cooking.

The master suite was beautiful, a comfy king-sized bed, desk, dresser, closet, and large walk-in bathroom. The other suite in each unit was about the same size but had twin beds instead of the king-sized bed. It also had a walk-in bathroom that would pamper a princess. Our preteen girls played beauty parlor for hours in the spacious mirrored-walled bathrooms.

The men and boys utterly enjoyed the two golf courses at the resort. One was a par three while the other is a standard course designed by David Rainville with a 3.5-star PGA rating. Both courses required our guys to wear collared shirts. The smaller course was an excellent bonding experience for our boys with their dads learning to play the game.

Escondido is about a half hour’s drive into San Diego. San Diego has many wonderful public beaches and tourist attractions. If your family is headed to San Diego for a vacation, look into the Welk Resort, you will be impressed.
