Lawrence Welk Resort

This has got to be the best resort we have been to. Upon arrival, we checked into our two-bedroom villa, which had everything! There were two ensuite bedrooms, the master actually having a real king size bed, a really spacious kitchen with facilities, an open plan living area opening out to a nice, large balcony. It was huge!!

There are three or four pools around the resort, the main pool having kids' flumes and play areas as well as a huge outdoor fire and seating area. We stuck to our "local" pool nearer our villa and it was quieter and more peaceful and really nice to play around in. It also had a jacuzzi and a lap pool as well as the main play pool with plenty sunloungers too.

The resort was peaceful and had a really nice golf course to play on. It was also one of those resorts were you could enjoy a walk at night, too.

It is ideal to have a car to enjoy the area and to reach the many supermarkets only a few miles away.  However, if one night you just want  takeout, then "PANDA EXPRESS" is highly recommended. It has the best orange chicken in this world. And their prices are pretty good, too.

This resort is highly recommended and I would go back there in a flash.

Lawrence Welk Resort

Best Things Nearby:
San Diego is a 45-minute drive.

Best Things About the Resort:
The resort is a micro community, so if you wished, you would not even have to leave the resort.

Resort Experience:
The Lawrence Welk Resort is nestled in a valley and up the mountainside just north of Escondido, not far from the 1-15 freeway. We were in one of the recently renovated buildings and had expansive views of the resort and surrounding hillsides. Our two-bedroom unit was enormous, with a king-size bed in the master bedroom, two twins in the other bedroom and a pullout bed in the spacious living area. There were two large bathrooms and a huge balcony with table and chairs and lounge chairs. The floor-to-ceiling windows allowed the outdoors in, however, the sun could be blocked out with the shutters. The kitchen was bigger than the one in our home and the window over the sink looked out onto the mountain—it could not get any better.

Best Things Nearby:
We enjoyed the beach, which was only about a half-hour drive from the resort.

Best Things About the Resort:
We really appreciated the size of the units and the well-maintained resort grounds.

Resort Experience:
Our Arrival: We were greeted at the door by one of the concierge people. It was a nice touch after our six-hour drive from the Phoenix area. Check-in was fast and friendly. After being burned at other resorts' property tours, we opted not to do that here. There was no pressure when we said no.

Our Unit: Our unit was large and spacious. Although clearly an older unit, it had been remodeled fairly recently judging by the condition of the furnishings and carpet. The wallpaper job was a little substandard, but that did not detract much from our overall impression of the unit. We never heard a peep through the walls from surrounding neighbors, a real plus.

But that's not to say that there was not noise. The resort is close enough to I-15 that road noise could be heard in the unit during quiet times. There were gas golf carts for the cleaning and maintenance people that we could easily hear many, many times throughout the day (electric would have been quieter). There was construction noise from a new unit being built that also marred the serenity.

Our Stay: We enjoyed the resort’s various pools, and our young daughter enjoyed the waterslide and kids’ spray area. We really appreciated the Kids' Club, where we could leave our daughter for several hours (for a $20 fee) while my wife and I enjoyed other things like the live musical show at the resort. We also enjoyed a nice buffet dinner at the resort's restaurant.

Conclusion: All in all, we had a great time despite the noise and were sorry to leave.

Best Things Nearby:
Everything is about 30 minutes or more from the resort, and gas here is expensive. However, this place is absolutely beautiful, as it is set back into the mountains and well maintained. There is Legoland, Wild Animal Park, San Diego Zoo/Balboa Park (Note: Every Tuesday they have a free day at one of the museums: check Frommer’s Guide online for the dates and museums), Six Flags (2 hours), Disney, Oceanside Beach (the beaches this time of year have cold water, so you want to have long sleeves on), Del Mar Beach (has a playground and places to view the beach for lovers), Carlsbad Beach, and much more. They also have bus tours to Hollywood, Tijuana, Balboa Park, and casinos.

Best Things About the Resort:
Well, this place has it ALL. This is definitely one of the best timeshares we have stayed at in awhile. They have three heated swimming pools and a pool especially for kids with a splash playground and heated pool with a waterslide resembling a big boulder. They are expanding, and the newer units are gorgeous and are two-bedroom lock-offs (which they are asking $38,000 to buy). They have a movie theatre, diner theatre, golf courses (three of them), a shopping center, and four recreation areas. My favorite is in the newer section, where they have an outdoor fireplace and a cozy and plush area to watch movies, use the Internet, play games, or swim in the kid's pool. They have grills at the rec centers, and the staff will light them for you if you ask. That area also has a kid's playroom with books, games, toys, and two TV’s, and you can borrow a Playstation game player and games. Exercise rooms are not that equipped but have the basics (no free weights, though).

Resort Experience:
I called a month ahead to get a map of the resort and decide where I would like to have my stay (if they let me choose). It was a breeze and an easy experience, as I called 2 weeks ahead of time (and was told to call about 3 days ahead) and requested a unit near the lake and children’s pool. I got room no. 374, and it was a wonderful location. The ground floor is great if you have kids, because it gives your kids an area to play in the grass and a patio on level with the Lakeview to have meals. There is easy access to fishing and feeding the ducks.

The unit: Well, we were in the older section, Phase 2, and we had a two-bedroom with two full baths. The unit was huge. The furniture was a bit outdated and worn (i.e. two of the chairs had holes in the vinyl), but the rest of the room was in excellent order. The decor was cheery, and you had plenty of room to move around. You had a separate eating area and a breakfast bar, washer/dryer, and stocked kitchen. The master bed was large, with a king-size bed, full closet, shutters, and private sliding glass door opening onto the patio. There is also an entrance to the patio from the living room area and the second bedroom. The windows are all covered with tasteful shutters. The bathrooms were huge, with separate rooms for the toilet, and each had two sinks in them, with tasteful ceramic counters in the kitchen and bathrooms. The master bath has an enclosed soaking tub with a showerhead and two sinks on opposite walls. The second bathroom doesn’t have a tub, only a shower, but it is a huge shower with a built-in ceramic bench.
