The Buccaneer

If you like resorts, I would definitely recommend staying at the Buccaneer. The hotel is huge and sprawling, and has pretty much everything you could ask for: a beautiful golf course, two beaches with all imaginable water sports, tennis courts, a few different restaurants ranging from casual to high-end, and more.

Our room, in a section of the resort called The Doubloons, was huge, modern, and beautiful and had a large terrace with ocean and sunset views. The beds were super-comfortable and the bathroom was huge, with a giant Jacuzzi tub - very nice!

Although the room was far from the main lobby and restaurant, it was right next to the beach and a smaller, more casual beachside restaurant, which was great. A free shuttle ferried us back and forth to the lobby restaurant for breakfast every morning.

The only thing missing from this hotel is a large full-service spa. They do have a spa that offers all sorts of treatments, like massage, facials, wraps, etc., but it's pretty minimal in terms of amenities and decor. Still, it’s a great place overall. Plus, the staff was super-friendly and accommodating - they really made our stay special!

What a great resort! Family owned and run since 1947, The Buccaneer drips with personality. Most of the staff were incredibly nice and went out of their way to be friendly. One thing that impressed both my wife and myself were the number of long-time visitors and employees who were at the Buccaneer. Many times over the span of our trip we saw warm reunions between the staff and new arrivals. We met people who have been coming over 5, 10 and 20 years!!

There are four pricey restaurants on location, and Christiansted is a short taxi ride away.

We loved Jose, the Kids Camp Coordinator. Our son did not officially sign up for the Kids Camp, but Jose went out of his way to spend some time with our son. He helped him catch a Gecko with a Banana Leaf lasso!! He then perched the lassoed Gecko atop my son''s hat for a wonderful photo op!
