We had a room with two beds. The balcony overlooked the Jungfrau. What a view!! Although we were there in November, the window boxes were full of beautiful red geraniums in full bloom. The accommodations were fairly basic, but very clean. There is a faint odor like freshly cut wood throughout the place. As is usual for Europe, the bathroom was small. The beds were very comfortable and the walls had a light wood paneling. When we arrived, there was no one at the front desk but we found a note addressed to me under the key to the room. We just took the key and went on in! We left to tour and did not return until later in the evening. The front door was unlocked, but there was again no one to be found. The next morning, breakfast was waiting on us prepared by the owners. They have a farm in the country and I assume they spent the night there. It appeared as though we were the only guests.
The location is very good. Interlaken has two train stations. Most of the time you arrive at Interlaken West. When you step outside the train station, you turn right. After walking a few yards, you turn left and walk about five minutes to reach the hotel. Very easy-no cabs needed if you do not have a lot of luggage.
The room cost us about $50 for three persons. It’s truly a bargain for Europe, especially Switzerland. Depending on my budget, I would consider staying here again, although I saw another place that I would like to try next time.
