If you want a beautiful spot to stay for relaxation and to use as a hub during your visit to North Georgia, we recommend the Kingwood Resort. My wife and I spent a 4-day weekend at the resort and left with thoughts of returning soon. Whether you are interested in the view of the surrounding mountains, if you enjoy a golf vacation on a challenging course, if you like to go snow skiing, or if you want to be pampered, Kingwood is your place in North Georgia.
We arrived on a Saturday afternoon after gem mining in Franklin, North Carolina (about 25 - 30 miles away). The surrounding mountains were beautiful as the sun was on its way down. We went out for an early supper, then returned to the resort to work off the meal in the weight room/spa. There is a nice weight room, large swimming pool (indoor), and separate male and female hot tubs, steam rooms, and saunas in a building on the resort property.
Breakfast is served at the award-winning restaurant on the property. They have a great breakfast for free for the guests. We were given eggs, toast, grits, bacon or sausage, and fruit for our meal. Lunch and supper are served at the restaurant, but we wanted to venture into the area and see what else was available. I understand that the food is excellent, but the prices are a bit steep.
The room had two queen-sized beds, a large bath area, a balcony, and other typical amenities. Everything was extremely comfortable.
The prices at the resort vary according to season. We arrived on March 31, so we were given off-season rates. I was quoted $135/night for other times of the year. The resort has special packages for honeymooners, golf weekends, spa get-aways, and other things.
We hope to get back soon.
