Best Things Nearby:
Small aquarium with many walkways through the marshes. Historic fort nearby. Nice beaches. Large grocery store nearby. Small outdoor strip mall.

Best Things About the Resort:
We stayed in the newest section of this resort. The units were only about 3 years old. The older dwellings, were in the typical Peppertree shape - octagonal. There was an enclosed pool in the newer section. There was also an outdoor pool in the other section of the resort which we did not use. Accommodations were very nice and spacious. There was a whirlpool tub in the master bedroom. Also a balcony in our 2nd floor unit (there were only 3 floors). There were tennis courts, but we didn't see them, or use them, obviously.

Resort Experience:
The entire resort is very large, and it seems to be a popular location. Grounds are well kept and interior decor in very good taste and condition, maybe that is because our unit was in the latest addition to the resort. We arrived late in the evening, but had called ahead for late arrival, so it did not take us any time to check in. They were ready for us. Good thing we called though, because their computers had gone down during the day. Check-in was handled by the security guard. Plenty of parking spaces available. There is a small store on the premises for forgotten essentials and small souvenirs and a grocery store, off the grounds, but close enough to walk to because of a path through the trees/brush. Almost across the street, there is a video store in a small shopping center. No problem renting videos, although you have to become a member (it's free). VCR's in the units, 2 televisions. There is a game room with a pool table and foose ball table and a video arcade game or two. Also a basketball net hanging. No elevators available. The beach was a 5-10 minute walk. No washing machine or dryer in the unit. Queen size bed in the master bedroom. Two single beds in the 2nd bedroom. Pull-out sofa in living room. Hot tub in master bathroom. 2nd bedroom had access to the 2nd bathroom from the hall or from the bedroom. A microwave and dishwasher complete the full kitchen.

Kingwood Resort

If you want a beautiful spot to stay for relaxation and to use as a hub during your visit to North Georgia, we recommend the Kingwood Resort. My wife and I spent a 4-day weekend at the resort and left with thoughts of returning soon. Whether you are interested in the view of the surrounding mountains, if you enjoy a golf vacation on a challenging course, if you like to go snow skiing, or if you want to be pampered, Kingwood is your place in North Georgia.

We arrived on a Saturday afternoon after gem mining in Franklin, North Carolina (about 25 - 30 miles away). The surrounding mountains were beautiful as the sun was on its way down. We went out for an early supper, then returned to the resort to work off the meal in the weight room/spa. There is a nice weight room, large swimming pool (indoor), and separate male and female hot tubs, steam rooms, and saunas in a building on the resort property.

Breakfast is served at the award-winning restaurant on the property. They have a great breakfast for free for the guests. We were given eggs, toast, grits, bacon or sausage, and fruit for our meal. Lunch and supper are served at the restaurant, but we wanted to venture into the area and see what else was available. I understand that the food is excellent, but the prices are a bit steep.

The room had two queen-sized beds, a large bath area, a balcony, and other typical amenities. Everything was extremely comfortable.

The prices at the resort vary according to season. We arrived on March 31, so we were given off-season rates. I was quoted $135/night for other times of the year. The resort has special packages for honeymooners, golf weekends, spa get-aways, and other things.

We hope to get back soon.

CoCo View

CoCo View is very open air. Some rooms are built out over the water while others are on shore but face the water. I didn''t use the a/c all week and was very comfortable. Pet parrots are located at strategic places throughout the grounds. We became good friends. A pool table in the recreation area serves as a gathering place for guests and divemasters.

The room was in the back section of the hotel, and the rooms in the main building seemed a bit nicer. Also, there was a wedding in the hotel that went on until 5am, so it was a bit noisy. The hotel did give us a discount after we complained about the noise, and said someone should have told us that there was to be a wedding there.
