We stayed in one of the new lock-off four-bedroom units. This is definitely an experience. The unit has four bedrooms (one lock-off), three and a half baths, two saunas, two Jacuzzi tubs, and three electric fire places. In addition, there are five TV's with DVD/VCR players, so everyone can watch what they want, which is great when you have the kids and grandkids along. It was a real improvement over their older units. The only drawback was that the main dining area table only seats six, but the grandkids didn't mind, as they got to sit at the breakfast bar in the kitchen to eat and had their own space. This unit is worth the exchange if you can get it. If you get any of the older ones, you will definitely be disappointed.

Best Things Nearby:
Bushkill Falls, hiking trails, The Crossings Outlets and many specialty shops, and, of course, the many activities at the resort

Best Things About the Resort:
Three pools, mini-golf, arcade and fitness centers, and the dining experiences

Resort Experience:
The resort is located in the heart of the Poconos, as the ads say. However, unless you get in one of the new units, which are pictured in the directory, you probably will be disappointed. You definitely need a vehicle for this place, unless you plan to only do things at the resort. There is a fitness center in each area and a pool, but there is a larger fitness center at the hotel that is located on the resort as well. There are activities every day for the kids and opportunities for the adults as well. This is a year-round resort, but I would definitely not go over a holiday week or between June 15th and Labor Day, unless you want to deal with a lot of unsupervised little ones, as I learned from several of the owners. I will plan any future trips accordingly.

Best Things Nearby:
I went there with so many papers I had printed from searching online about the area. It seemed like such a great place. However, when we got there the area looked extremely run down and neglected. Most of the places I had done searches on and went to see were in little rundown store fronts that were dirty.

Best Things About the Resort:
I was asked this on a form before leaving and my answer then and now is: the best thing about this resort, and my trip, was LEAVING!

Resort Experience:
When I first found this resort, it looked very nice and had so many amenities my family couldn't wait to go. We were extremely disappointed from the moment we arrived. As soon as I saw the outside of the village and opened the front door, I was shocked that it was rated a resort of international distinction. The villas itself were old and run down, there was garbage in the "court" and parking lot, bags of dirty towels/sheets. Although the set up of the unit was nice, almost everything in it was dingy. The kitchen smelled like urine. The screens on the sliding doors in the living room were broken, the Jacuzzi didn't work, and the bathrooms were very "grungy." The mattresses were so unbelievably uncomfortable and made so much noise at the slightest movement, making for a horrible nights sleep. At least I had my own pillow. And my front door handle busted off. We were only there 2 days.

Apparently thievery is a problem here, since I was given a sheet of paper listing the cost of items from the unit if they were found "missing"—TV, microwave, comforters, sheets.

The resort grounds were also run down. There was no landscaping or flowers, and the grass was weeds (except for the golf course). There was a playground, mini golf, and a few pools which the kids always enjoy, and a game room too.

We checked-in late on a Friday night, and by Sunday afternoon decided to leave and checked out first thing Monday morning.

I own two Gold Crown timeshare resorts, which are absolutely beautiful. Going to a resort of international distinction should be close behind, this resort should have no rating whatsoever. I wouldn't stay there again if you gave me a free week.

Best Things About the Resort:
The activities program.

Resort Experience:
The Villas at Fairway are generously rated "RID" by RCI, and is part of the Fernwood Hotel & Resort in Bushkill, PA.

Don’t expect to get a unit that looks like the picture in the RCI book. The resort has 238 units and only 30 (units 3421-3438 & the 12 units in the 3800’s) are the "new ones" depicted. If you are fortunate to get one of these, you’ll probably be satisfied. If not, you will not be as happy.

On arrival at 4:00pm, our assigned unit was not ready. It STILL wasn’t ready by 6:00pm, so we were given a different unit. This unit had a kind of moldy smell, but being dead tired from the day’s travel, we took it. That night a noticeable "dripping" was coming from the A/C vent. The next morning, we requested and got another unit which was passable. (The 1st night’s unit was taken out of service after we moved.) The 2d unit was fairly clean, but the stairs creaked, the carpet needed cleaning, and there was a "musty" smell (so bring extra air freshener spray). The resort has a "no pets" policy, which was not enforced. At least a dozen dogs were seen outside of units in plain view of resort personnel.

This resort needs A LOT of maintenance. Most units are almost 20 years old and have peeling paint or mildewed siding. The grounds could stand a good overhaul as well. Weeds in all the grassy areas, cracks in most of the paved areas, and rotted wood "borders" along the sides of many walkways, created a "worn out" appearance. On three days during our stay, the TV cable service was out.

Our 2 bedroom unit was fairly large. It had a living/kitchen area on the main floor, with a wood burning fireplace. The screen door to the patio was reported as broken when we checked in, and it was still broken when we checked out. The Master Bedroom downstairs had a queen bed, a large sitting area with TV, a huge walk-in closet and a bath with a whirlpool, single sink, and a 3’x3’ walk-in shower with a plastic curtain. Upstairs, there was a loft with a queen bed, full bath with a single sink and a curtained tub/shower. The resort charges for all calls (including local and 800 calls).

This resort has a top-notch activity program. There are many restaurants on property, a par 71 golf course, indoor and outdoor pools, tennis, fitness center, horseback riding, and just about everything else. There are kids’ activities, trips, crafts, live music & magic shows, ice cream socials, billiards, and on and on and on. Give Villas at Fairway a "Gold Crown" for the activities.

But ultimately you have to stay in a unit, and the most of the units are "Unrated" at best. We would not exchange here again.
