The Sundial is such a gorgeous property. Fountains greet you on your way in, and the lobby is very neat. Beaches Bar & Grill is an excellent place to eat and drink. You also get a nice view of the beach from your table. We ended up ordering a pizza from the gift shop area, and it was very good and not too expensive. We ended up getting upgraded to a partial-beachview room, which was very nice. We could see the garden and part of the beach. The room was immaculate. It was very clean and it was comfortable; we felt right at home. The beach was also very clean, and gorgeous. You can spend hours just collecting sea shells. If you're looking for family fun, too... I know they offer many kid-oriented activities. Plus, there's a nice pool. It's such a nice place, whether you want to get a massage, sunbathe, collect shells, or many other activities. You'll always find something to do.

I stayed at the Sundial Beach Resort in May. These are my findings.

On the day I checked in, I found the front desk eager to please. The lobby was warm and welcoming. From the lobby you can see several of the restaurants at the resort Windows On The Water, Beaches Bar & Grill and The Shoppe were you can buy some eatables to go such as deli items, pizza and coffee and a bagel to name a few. I was given directions via map on how to get to my room. Driving to the room, I realized how big the complex is. I found all the facilities in wonderful order. I checked out the tennis courts, all 3 pools, game room and exercise room. The only place that disappointed was the exercise room as it was rather small and depressing when I went to work out. You can also rent bicycles and sailboats at Sundial. The beach was wonderful. By the main pool, there are plenty of lounge chairs that are right on the beach for our enjoyment.

Back to the room, I rented a one-bedroom condo. The space is perfect for a family of 4.

The room is decorated in typical Florida fashion. Bring on the pastels. But, it’s tastefully done. I checked out the kitchen, it was well equipped to make a meal. There is even a dishwasher! In the living room, there is a sleep sofa and loveseat. There is a television set that can be placed in either the bedroom or the living room for viewing pleasure. You can even rent videos for the VCR if you like. The bathroom was adequate, complete with available hairdryer and came with toiletries. The screened in balcony was the best part of the room, there was lovely view of the gardens and you could see the Gulf in the distance. On the balcony there was a table and chairs for coffee and breakfast in the morning. There is a king-sized bed and you can pull the room divider to make a bedroom private. There is also a walk in closet complete with a safe to keep your goodies safe. On the second day, after a fantastic walk on the beach before breakfast, I could tell that the maid had come in from the moment I walked in. The tile floor was freshly mopped. The bed was made and there were fresh towels in the bedroom.

On my last day, I asked about a later check out and was granted one without a problem.

Check out, just like check in was a breeze. I went away.

Sundial Beach Resort

Sundial Resort is a great family destination located right on Sanibel''s Gulf Coast beach. The large complex features condo units with full kitchens ranging from studio size to 2 bedroom units.

We stayed in a one bedroom condo, which was nicely furnished with a living/dining area, a well-equipped kitchen, and a small bedroom. There were TV/VCR units in the living room and bedroom. Our room was not oceanfront, but had a partial ocean view.

The resort itself is a full-service complex with several pools, tennis courts, and restaurants in all prices ranges. The grounds are well-kept and nicely landscaped with flowers and shrubs. There is an extensive video library for rentals

One interesting and unique thing about the resort is its Eco-center. Kids (of all ages) can visit the center and learn about Sanibel''s unique habitat. They can touch some of the creatures and watch during feeding times.

Because we enjoyed our condo kitchen so much, we did not try any of the on-site restaurants. One of them, "Windows on the Water" is reputedly one of the best restaurants on Sanibel. It has a stunning ocean view and the menu looked great.

The only downside to Sundial is the somewhat Soviet appearance of the building exteriors, which look like Seventies-era concrete architecture. However, the units are charming inside and the resort facilities are family oriented and top quality.
