The Carneros Inn

What a fantastic new concept for a hotel! Olin Partnership has created a place of beauty among the vineyards, focusing on creating a special place for each visitor on its 27-acre, immaculately landscaped property, at the mouth of Napa Valley. Individual cottages, complete with private courtyards featuring teak outdoor furniture and heat lamps, make up the small communities of The Carneros Inn.

Each "community" is made up of 8 to 10 private cottages (84 in total) whose front porches, complete with white rockers, face a common courtyard. Inside each comfortable cottage you will find a complimentary bottle of wine, bottled water and a chocolate bar next to the wood burning fireplace and plasma screen television. Also offered is free high speed internet access. Two sets of French doors lead out to the private courtyard. Clean contemporary furnishings and vaulted ceilings make each room feel bright and fresh. Each bathroom is complete with heated floors, sunken tub, and the piece-de-resistance -- an indoor/outdoor shower that provides a multitude of shower head options and a shower massager.

Take a stroll along one of the many paths that link these communities together up the hill to the Main House where you will find the reception area, the living room (with comfortable couches and a fireplace overlooking the valley, it offers a choice of board games or DVDs), a small meeting room and the spa (did not have time this trip!). Breakfast is meant to be enjoyed taking in the view of the valley from the Hilltop Restaurant (also offering lunch and dinner of which I did not sample) over several cups of delicious coffee. Menu options include carneros huevos (a lamb hash), a wild mushroom, Sonoma Jack and spinach omelette, and delicious hot cakes.

The Carneros Inn has all the makings of what you can be sure will prove to be the next "it" spot in the Napa Valley.
