Sandal's Montego Bay

Sandal's Montego Bay is basically across the street from the airport, but don't let that deter you from staying here. Sandal's has the best beach in Montego Bay, the water is warm, the sand is absolutely perfect, with no pebbles.

This is probably one of Sandal's smaller and older resorts, but it's still really great. During my stay in Jamaica I stayed at Montego Bay for 3 nights and Ocho Rios for 5 nights. I got married at Ocho Rios, but I really regret not getting married at Montego Bay. They have a really great private gazebo on the beach for weddings. I paid about $300 a night for two people. Sandal's is all inclusive so you'll never have to take our your wallet. During our entire stay we didn't spend any money other than at the airport and when we went shopping in town. We didn't tip at all, though we left a $10 tip for maid when we departed the hotel. Drinks, watersports, food is all included.

This is a really fun resort for younger people. I've heard that if you are older you should stay at Sandal's Royal Caribbean which is just down the rode. You can visit all the Sandal's resorts if you are a guest at one of them. Royal Carribean is also really beautiful, we visited there for an afternoon, it's about a 10 minute drive away, on the free shuttle bus.

When we arrived at Montego Bay we were automatically upgraded to a grand ocean room. Our room faced the beach, and it had a private balcony and a Jacuzzi. We stayed here during Thanksgiving of 2006, so the resort was very quiet, and I think it's a great time to visit the Caribbean since most American's are visiting family and you can really get some good deals from the resorts.

Montego Bay is a couple's only resort, so you won't see little kids running around, or fratty single guys. It's a very relaxed atmosphere and most people drink from morning till night. The food is okay, I wasn't really expecting much. We ate on the beach a lot, since the beach hut serves simple meals of burgers, jerk chicken, and fries, and it's open almost around the clock. There are restaurants that require a reservation, and I suggest you try them, since the main restaurant there can get kind of boring.

The night time entertainment is hilarious and lots of fun. They have a beach party every Monday and the guests are expected to participate. There's definitely a game show theme to the nightly entertainment. If you don't want to be volunteered show up a little late.

The resort is a bit small compared to other resorts, but I actually really liked that since it didn't take 30 minutes to walk from my room to get some food.

There are several levels of rooms that you can choose from at Sandals. My husband and I stayed in a Junior Suite within a duplex which had a king-sized bed, full bath, and a sitting area. The rooms are beautiful with marbled bathrooms and four poster mahogany beds. All rooms include air conditioning, king-size bed, amenity kit, hair dryer, telephone, private bath and shower, safe, clock radio, cable T.V. and coffee maker. Suites have sitting areas, mini-bars, terry robes, and a daily New York Times Fax.

Suites also come with concierge service. We heard from many of our friends that the extra $ was worth it to have this service. However, we never even saw our concierge and were very disappointed that we had spent the extra money. The bottom line is that Sandals has so much to offer that you really don't spend that much time in the room. And since Sandals is 'for lovers,' when you are in the room, you really are not paying much attention to the facilities, if you know what I mean. My advice: save your money, get a basic room and enjoy yourself just as much as those who book a suite.
