Snow Lake Lodge

Best Things Nearby:
Big Bear Lake, the "Village", Gold Fever Trail

Best Things About the Resort:
Fresh air, mountain scenery, well appointed units.

Resort Experience:
We were very pleased indeed when we arrived at the Snow Lake Lodge. Having stayed in several RCI resorts previously, we were curious as to how this resort would stack up to the others. We are happy to report that this unit held up quite nicely. It was a one-bedroom unit (as are all the units at this complex), which was more than enough room for my wife and I to call home for a few days. If another couple were with us or if our children (who are now grown) had been with us, I'm sure we could have managed nicely as there were two separate bathrooms available to the guests. The bathrooms each seemed to have a theme. One could have been called the 'Rabbit' bathroom and the other could have been called the 'Squirrel' bathroom as each had specific decor related to the animals listed. Both main rooms of the unit (bedroom/living room) could be closed off with their own doors and each had their own cable TV.

In any case, this unit was furnished nicely with the usual amenities. The only downside to this unit was that instead of a dining area, there was only a long bar (no dining table) and bar stools on which to sit to take your meals. It was a minor point since there were only the two of us but it could have been more complicated had there been more people to seat at a meal. On Saturday mornings a free continental breakfast is provided. The complex itself was located right on the main highway through Big Bear with ample parking being found on the grounds. Our unit was on the second floor and we found it to be very quiet and peaceful.

Best Things Nearby:
Big Bear City is a very family oriented place to stay. It has enough to do, but not too much to make you feel like you have to exhaust yourself on vacation. It is within minutes of the ski runs.

Best Things About the Resort:
Snow Lake Lodge has quality furnishings. The fireplace was a beautiful rock style in the bedroom. The sofa made into a bed for the third and fourth persons, but it was very tight in there once opened. The bathroom was between the living room and bedroom with doors on both so that either room could access the bathroom privately.

Resort Experience:
The first thing I always think about when I recall our stay at Snow Lake Lodge was how tiny the one bedroom unit was. There were three of us, two adults and a toddler. It seemed almost claustrophic in the dark living room and the kitchen and living room were barely adequate for us three. I can't imagine if there were four adults in there.

The bedroom was moderately sized and lighter so it was more inviting. The bathroom was average sized and nicely appointed. The kitchen was so tiny you almost had to walk out of the 2 foot by 4 foot area to turn around. Thank goodness it was open with a bar area on one side.

We were upstairs, third level, accessed by outside stairs in winter, difficult carrying a baby and all their stuff. There was really nothing wrong with the unit other than it's tiny size, probably made worst with an active toddler. It would probably be great for two adults who plan to be out skiing all day and just watching TV or videos at night.

This timeshare is located right on the busy main road coming into Big Bear City. This made for a rather noisy location, cramped parking area, but great for walking to many small restaurants and shops along the way close by. There wasn't any activities that we were aware of at the resort. It was just a place to stay.

There are many rentals for the season, and the best way is to book in advance so you can have a location near the slopes. Prices actually vary a lot, but if you book in advance you can save a lot.
