Pahio Shearwater

Pahio Shearwater

We spent what seemed to be a short week at the Pahio Shearwater. We had a beautiful second floor 2 BR unit which overlooked the pool and the Pacific Ocean. The grounds and units are well kept. The pool is small, but, what the heck are you doing at the pool when you're in Hawaii? Anyhow, the other Pahio properties have beautiful pools you can use and they're only about a 5 minute drive away. The units are pleasantly furnished. The beds were hard which has been my common complaint for every timeshare I've stayed at. The only problem we had all week was a coffee grinder that didn't work, and it got replaced the next morning.

We read other reviews which talked about problems with cats, chickens, roosters, and ants. Yes, they have all of them, but they didn't effect our vacation a bit.

Best Things Nearby:
Princeville Shopping Center, Princeville Hotel, Hanalei Bay, Taro Fields, One Lane Bridges, Walking/Running Trail, restaurants, lots of beaches, and Kilauea Point Lighthouse

Best Things About the Resort:
Friendly, clean, large, and great for families

Resort Experience:
I will not repeat what other RCI members have said about the resort. Yes, it is large and beautiful. The resort has a great staff that can schedule any activity you might want to do on the island. If you listen to the timeshare presentation, you will get discounts on many activities. Pahio is only selling at Bali Hai Villas.

The resort is the oldest of the Pahio resort but still beautiful with lots of places to get great photos. Two things that stood out to me were the washer/dryer on the back patio off of the master bath and the ability to use a lock-off unit on "check-out" day. This was wonderful so we could "freshen up" (shower) before we headed to the airport, since the pool only has an outdoor shower.

I would recommend calling the resort before you arrive to request an upper-level unit just so you can get the views. We stayed in phase II, which was just fine. We had no problems with roaches, ants, or any other bugs. The resort staff sprays once a month for the insects. The resort was wonderful, and we had plenty of room with three adults and two children. The pool is small but pretty, with a waterfall and hot tub combined. Across the street from the resort is a asphalt walking/running trail that leads back to the Princeville Hotel. The trail is about 2 miles long. Where else can you run with mountains on one side and the ocean on the other? Absolutely beautiful.

Best Things Nearby:
Plenty of uncrowded, beautiful beaches.

Best Things About the Resort:
The ocean views from your own balcony with plenty of privacy.

Resort Experience:
This resort was open and airy with lush tropical landscaping. The unit was very clean and you had beautiful ocean views from your balcony with privacy. There was a mid week linen change, bedding changes, and trash pickup.

Best Things Nearby:
Access to pristine vistas, beaches were not crowded, and wonderful local restaurants.

Best Things About the Resort:
Location in Princeville, within walking distance of the grocery store and some restaurants.

Resort Experience:
Be aware that all units do not have ocean views and Pahio owners are given preference for those units. Thus RCI exchange visitors have an excellent chance of ending up in the units that are wedged in right next to the pool pumphouse with its constant and less than quiet operation noise, which one cannot avoid given the lack of air-conditioning (and thus need for open windows). These less-than-desirable units have a view of the pool and hot tub with its associated traffic/noise. Sleeping late is not an option given that the pool maintenance activities start at 7:30am.

The unit itself was very roomy and reasonably appointed.

Excellent four-star seaside hotel at the northern end of Georgetown. The rooms are spotless and luxurious. The city center is not very far away, unless you're a lazy person, in which case you'll probably grab a cab anyway.

The views from the sea-facing rooms are great and the local restaurant offers good variety of meals. Prices, at around 120-150 RM per room (ask for special deals or discounts), are quite reasonable.
