Upon arrival, we found a filthy kitchen and bathroom floors, food smeared underneath the glass-top kitchen table, the front of the fridge rusted with dried food spots all over it, chicken bones stuck in the garbage disposal, dirty windows throughout the unit, a dirty spoon in with the clean silverware, broken lampshades on both lamps in master bedroom, no TV in the guest bedroom, and dust all over the dresser in master bedroom. The unit was behind the garbage dumpster, so it was extremely noisy. There was an uncaring staff. This was the worst place I have ever stayed. This place should have a big circle with a line through it that says BEWARE! Best advice: go somewhere else.

Unit was very large, but quite sub-standard quality for an RCI Gold Crown resort. Dark and damp. The photos on RCI and Pahio resorts Web sites grossly misrepresented the unit we were placed in. Old section of resort, ground floor, looking out on a crowded parking lot and big green dumpster, no privacy, no locks on second bedroom sliding door (to the outside). "Patio" was a tiny, tilted concrete pad not large enough for a table and four chairs. No lawn, just dirt and ratty little bushes and trees outside our unit. Little greenery, no flowers. Several mornings we awoke to find workers escaping the rain huddled outside our sliding glass doors! Resort's common areas and pool are quite nice. Golf course is spectacular. No doubt the newer units, many of which look out onto the course, live up to the marketing materials, but ours was like a cheap 1960s apartment. Very disappointing, especially considering we booked a year in advance and exchanged a fabulous two-bedroom unit at Whistler BC. No air conditioning. Don't really need it in Kauai, but it was unusually humid during on our visit and kept the unit feeling very damp. Kitchen well equipped. Bathrooms were downright ugly and dark. Washer and dryer were outdoors on a tiny, leaky "patio" with a fence to block out the apartments next door! Bottom line: if you enjoy hanging out at the resort at all, check on location of your unit and remodeling status (I hope they're planning to do some!). This tired old unit in Phase 1 was so uncomfortable and unattractive; we couldn't relax and enjoy any time there.

Best Things Nearby:
Beaches, beaches, beaches. Princeville ranch, Hanalei, golf, and good food. We went horseback riding at the ranch to a hidden waterfall. This included a short hike and lunch. Another day, we went on a river kayak trip to a hidden waterfall.

Best Things About the Resort:
The timeshare at Ka'EoKai was the biggest one we have ever stayed in, as far as square footage goes. Every room was enormous. We were on the third level and could see the ocean. It was a beautiful place.

Resort Experience:
It was very clean and the bathroom was the size of a small bedroom. Our unit had a cooler in it that we packed up every day to take to the beach. It also had a basket in the front foyer (yes, there was a huge foyer) and the basket had beach mats and beach towels in it to take off-site.

The pool was somewhat small, as well as the hot tub. We did not spend much time at the resort during the day, as we went to the beach or did other local activities.

Best Things Nearby:
Numerous beaches both public and private are located within two miles driving distance (though they can be seen from some units). Golfing including the Makai Course on site and the Prince course within 1 mile. Within short driving distances, there is Hanalei Bay, The Fern Grotto, Wailua Lake, downtown Kapaa, Poipu Beach, Waimea Canyon and the Na Pali Coast, and many other incredible sites too numerous to list.

Best Things About the Resort:
The landscaping surrounding the units is nothing short of a tropical paradise. It includes lush foliage and waterfalls. The units are arranged for the ultimate in privacy and seclusion, though just steps away from the pool areas and the activity center. Parking is "right there." The units are HUGE (2000 square feet) with a king bed, jacuzzi tub, and skylight in the master bedroom and bath, and an enormous living area with a wet bar, cathedral ceiling, and a fully seperate dining and living area. There is a full kitchen with all the appliances and a laundry unit right off the master bathroom''s private deck. Then there is a seperate "wing" with another bedroom and a full bathroom. There is an enormous circular deck that wraps about 180 degrees around the unit with a private entrance from the master bedroom and two more off the living room and dining area. You can probably fit 30-40 people on it. We were fortunate enough to have a view of both the ocean and the golf course. The activity center was close by and offered numerous free options for entertainment. They also offered discounted fee-based options too. Located in the most desirable place on the island.

Resort Experience:
Between the lush landscaping, the size, and luxurious amenities provided within the unit itself, the bend-over-backwards approach of the staff, and the incredibly impressive and prestigious location on this spectacular tropical island, it simply can''t be touched by anywhere else we have ever stayed. If you desire the uptmost in luxury, romance, and visual sensation, I cannot recommend anywhere more idyllic to stay. I wish everyone could experience this resort just once.
