Aviawest Tauca Lea by the Sea

  • July 14, 2004
  • Rated 4 of 5 by Catpainter from SHAWNIGAN LAKE, British Columbia, Chad
These are new accomodations overlooking the basin where the fishing boats moor. As we had a two-bedroom, it felt very spacious. There was a jacuzzi on the outside deck and a washer/dryer in case you get wet from being on the beach. No swimming pool; however, there are lots of boating, hiking, flying, surfing adventures to pursue. And the eagles kept us company nearby.

Tauca Lea by the Sea

Best Things Nearby:
The incredible Pacific Rim National Park with its spectacular beaches (surfing here is famous around the world) and the untouched beauty of the rainforest are only a short drive from Tauca Lea. The active fishing port of Ucluelet is walking distance and part of the resort is right on the Ucluelet harbour. The main building at Tauca Lea has a wide wooden, two-level deck with comfortable chairs and tables for those who want relax in sunshine and observe the boats coming and going. Some units also face the harbour.

Best Things About the Resort:
The island location of this resort offers beauty and tranquility. At night, the only sound is the sea lions barking on nearby islands. The buildings are all new and the suites are luxuriously furnished. The resort itself is so beautiful that you may find it hard to leave to explore the nearby beaches and forests.

Resort Experience:
This resort is on an island with a calm, beautiful inlet on one side and an active harbor on the other. Plus there is a gourmet restaurant, The Boat Basin, right on site and the Rainforest Spa, offering delightful treatments and some yoga classes.

The two-bedroom suites on the third floor of each building have huge cathedral ceilings, skylights, and enormous windows on the seaward side. The second floor suites are also bright and sunny with many windows and higher-than-normal ceilings. The one-bedroom units on the ground floor have lots of windows and a patio or deck off the living room. The two-bedroom units have large decks off the living rooms and balconies off the master bedrooms. Many of these suites also feature a large, outdoor, Jacuzzi bathtub on the deck. You haven''t lived until you have steamed under the stars with the scent of the forest and the sea all around you.

The living rooms all have gas fireplaces, entertainment centres (VCR, CD player, stereo, satellite TV), and elegant, comfy furniture such as leather recliners. The kitchens are fully equipped with full-size, ultramodern appliances and the bathrooms are well-designed and have every amenity, including hairdryers.

The reception building has a complete, efficient laundry room (for $4 Cdn, you can do a huge load of washing and drying in less than an hour and Tauca Lea will even supply detergent). Reception includes a small art gallery with some souvenir items too. Coffee and muffins are available every day. Maid service is as often as you want it and absolutely everyone on site is friendly and helpful.

One small note of caution: there are many stairs to climb to reach the two-bedroom units. The second floor suites have 18 steps and the top (third) floor have more.
