There are accommodations galore in this city ranging from the small motel to elegant high-rise hotels. The Hampton Inn we chose was just north of the Austin City Limits in Round Rock, an area where you can’t tell where Austin ends and Round Rock begins. The nice thing about this hotel was that it had just opened-everything was so new. The lobby was a grand sitting room, with couches, a fireplace, a wall with four large TV screens (for those guests who could manage to watch four channels simultaneously). It was a room where you could sit and visit with friends, or just get away for a while. The décor was truly Texas, with native limestone rock dominating the room.
Just around the corner from the check-in counter, was a small "store" where guests could purchase such things as sodas, candies, microwave popcorn, cookies and even microwave meals. And, the items were reasonably priced- a great convenience when you wanted a snack and didn’t want to leave the hotel. There was a large outdoor pool, perfect for those hot Texas nights, and also a hot tub. A small exercise room with three workout machines completed the immunities.
As for the space one often occupies for one-fourth of their time while visiting an area, our room was large and the bed comfortable. There was a small kitchen area with a refrigerator, microwave and coffee pot.
Breakfast is included, as with all Hampton Inns, and we are not just talking donuts and coffee here. Breakfast includes fresh fruits, yogurt, bagels, several different breads for toasting, hard-boiled eggs, pastries of all types, cereals, milk, several juices and some really good coffee.
This Hampton Inn was adjacent to the Dell Computer techno-surburbian complex, which is comprised of nine massive building, resembling silver-plated monoliths lying on their side. Each one is numbered, Building One, Building Two, etc. Within this complex are picnic areas, sports courts, and enough parking for probably every car in the Austin area. Within the radius of one mile, we counted at least 20 restaurants, and a super 24-hour supermarket, just in case you get the munchies at 3:00 am.
