Fairfeild Pagosa Springs Resort

  • July 5, 2005

Best Things Nearby:
Hot Springs, white water rafting, horseback riding, fishing

Best Things About the Resort:
The employees--everyone was ultra-helpful--and the view from our balcony was pure "Rocky Mountain High".

Resort Experience:
Beautiful resort in a valley; Pagosa Springs is a small town and very friendly, with lots to do in the area during summer or winter. The grocery store is less than 1 mile away and did not charge "resort prices" for anything. We loved sitting on the huge balcony, watching the golfers, the bluebirds, and meadowlarks, and at dusk, the bats come out! They fly by in silence, and their antics catching bugs were a true joy to watch.

We opted for the one-bedroom unit but wished we'd had the one bedroom deluxe instead. The furnishings were very nice and the unit was clean, however, the kitchen was woefully small. The only place I found to store the non-perishable food items were on top of the fridge. And there was no workspace to speak of when preparing a meal. But all utensils and such were there, so I was able to make do with just a bit of inconvenience.

Best Things Nearby:
My favorite was having the newly remodeled grocery store so close by. I found myself cooking more than I planned since it was so convenient.

Best Things About the Resort:
The lakes... omigosh.. the lakes. And the fish were biting.

Resort Experience:
The resort is large and rambling. You'll need a car to get around. There are four marvelous lakes (yes, we love to drown worms) stocked with trout, bass, perch, bluegill, and much more. We had a one bedroom, which I wouldn't recommend. I think the one bedroom deluxe would have been a lot nicer, with a larger kitchen area. The unit was clean and very nice except for the cramped kitchen. I had to store any non-perishables on top of the fridge.

We were on a lake, which was very convenient and quite beautiful. Looking over the lake and seeing the new snow on the uppermost mountains was a wonderful experience. The resort staff are very capable and quite friendly. Although we had no children with us, there were parks and a large playground in the area.

Best Things Nearby:
Lots of hiking and biking trails nearby

Best Things About the Resort:
The fitness center and work area were very nice and the town itself was very cute and pleasant

Resort Experience:
Pagosa Springs is cute little town nestled high in the mountains. There are lots of biking and hiking trails near the resort, which is great. But unfortunately when we were there it was still a bit too early in spring and many of the trails were still closed and snow covered. The snow-covered mountains were beautiful and made for some fun hiking adventures.

Best Things Nearby:
Wolf Creek Ski Resort - it's a small resort (9 chair lifts), but it was a great way to spend two days learning how to ski.

Pagosa Hot Springs - great way to spend an evening if you like to do that sort of thing.

Grocery Store - literally right around the corner from the resort.

Best Things About the Resort:
Very well appointed, and spacious. It had a washer/dryer in the unit which proved invaluable. Parking was right outside my condo which was good considering the time of year I was there. Most mornings were below 0.

Resort Experience:
The resort is very big - it has an activities center that seems to be knowledgeable about their clientele - they fit me very well for skis and boots. I was more focused on the surrounding activities, not what the resort provided, so unfortunately I'm no help there.

My only complaint is that checking in by myself for a 2-bedroom condo did not go unnoticed. One of the staff commented, "...the 2 bedroom condo seems too big for just one person..." which was completely inappropriate, but other than that, everyone was very friendly.
